“A steady hip hop beat drives the expressive bass which combined, allows the interplay between the keyboards, guitars, the beautiful trumpet melody & sound effects. Amalfi is a track with a real sense of purpose that delivers a full bodied, well rounded performance. If you close your eyes and let the music take you along with it on it’s journey, who knows where you may travel to?”

Driving along the winding coastal road, watching the setting sun over the Mediterranean Sea and feeling the warm breeze in your hair. This is what "Amalfi" feels like. The warm lounge-like sound combined with a strong hiphop beat, the interaction of the acoustic and electric guitar and the iconic trumpet melody make this track unique and transport you mentally for three minutes into a mini summer holiday by the sea.

“Wow! This is a dark, powerful statement that hits you right between the eyes. “Nervous” by Dole is nothing short of brilliant. An all too familiar and tragic story that for many will open wounds that never truly heal. It’s a story that needs to be told in an uncompromising, in your face manner that will hopefully drive the message home. Dole delivers, “Nervous” is a ‘tour de force.’ Bravo! ”

Tibe D’oro – X+x (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Features, Jazz, Jazz Features, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“The slightly detuned piano sections give this track a real sense of nostalgia, a sense of yearning. One of those songs where the main theme will stick in your mind for days. A gentle tug at your heart strings, a trip down memory lane, haunting memories of a place & people you loved. The tune successfully invokes all of these feelings & more.”

-Nagamag.com

Tibe D’Oro is the place of desire the Viennese Duo, Fabian Sialia and Leonard Cuscoleca, creates the sound for. In their music and composition process, they try to create a world as they feel it could or ought to be. The compositions draw from recordings from an artist mansion in North London that became a shrine for the local music scene. Singer-songwriter Amy Yon (vocals), and trumpeters Ludwig Ascher (Drahthaus) and Johnny Woodham (Alfa Mist), play with utmost freedom to a singular tempo and tune. A treasure trove of recordings allowing endless assembling emerged. The result are the three pieces X+X=1 closely interlinked through repeating and transforming elements.

Together with the work of the Vienesse Painter, Philip Mueller (Artwork, Vision of Tobe D’Oro), the compositions merge with the painter's image world depicting scenes from Tibe D’Oro.

Released on Fox Lane Music 2020

“We can't deny that some Classical creations have the ability to touch our soul. "The Lark" can transfer all the magic from the hands of "Kiki Cubb" into our inner self. Soft, etherial and slightly melancholic melodies are ready to fill the air around and cuddle us with care.”

Kiki Cubb is an international composer who began studying piano in France at the age of nine. She continued to study music until her late teens. She moved to the United States and due to the day to day demands of life, she was distracted from her passion for composing music for some years. MAXI MERAKI – Way Too Long (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, House, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“"MAXI MERAKI" strikes with a dancing bomb. Are you into House? Be prepared to dive in a mix of wave vibrations, melodic atmosphere and strong emotions. The Belgian artist has given emphasis in his percussion patterns, edited vocals and sound effects, creating an addictive vibe.”

-Nagamag.com

Funky feels from Antwerp’s Maxi Meraki with his first release ‘Way Too Long’ on Dutch House label artwrk. Targeting the Balearic hot spots he’s become accustomed to with deep, focused house composing suave vocals and pianos striding about the place with a splash of salsa to them. While there’s plenty of groove as standard from the Roger Sanchez/Mark Knight-supported spinner - springy bass, a warm blast of synths on a breakdown of calming motivation - Meraki builds an aura and gives the track time and space to explore itself, as per the knowledge-of-self lyrics.

Antwerp resident Maxi Meraki grew up with music and started to play records at high end clubs in Belgium and Amsterdam. A first memorable highlight was noted during the summer of 2018 with a 4 hour set at the Pacha Destino in Ibiza.

Forward to the middle of 2019, the summer season residencies at the W hotel in Barcelona and Izakaya Ibiza set the tone for a bright summer. A sunny season filled with extra gigs: Soho House (Barcelona), Bagatelle (Ibiza), Plage Casanis (Marbella) and the absolute highlight playing on Ibiza’s most popular boat party “Pirata’s Ibiza”, warming up for Circoloco’s DC10 resident DJ Nathan Barato.

Big Shot Man” the latest single from FeelFree unloads a full lyrical clip into the greed-fueled, divisive culture that has pervaded American politics for far too long. This rootsy protest anthem from the D.C. based band features FeelFree’s hard-hitting horns and a memorable chorus that sings, “we will never be afraid, though you wanna manipulate, we love what you hate, and we’ll build what you break.

The teaser from the first episode of the concert film series “WeLive on Tour” is here and comes up with a highly exciting combination: The concert film combines the singer Hannah Wilhelm from Lahr and the already well-known funk band FATCAT – singer-songwriter meets funk. The live video for “Oh Welt”, written by Hannah Wilhelm and arranged by FATCAT, released on 8 June, offers a first taste. German lyrics meet funky brass interludes and great voices.

“It’s totally amazing to see the result for the first time,” Hannah Willhelm said happily after the release. Even on stage, she didn’t notice exactly what was happening around her, “because I just had so much fun. What FATCAT has done with the song is unbelievable. And also what the WeLive team did with the song is unbelievable. I’m just ultra happy happy happy” about the result, says the singer.

FATCAT frontman Kenny Joyner is also satisfied with the film, shot in the Sternenberghalle Friesenheim. Because of Corona, they couldn’t rehearse as usual before a gig, so they had to make do via digital rehearsals. “It was something new for all of us. But it was a lot of fun,” says Joyner.

Hannah Wilhelm achieved nationwide fame in 2020 through her participation in the German casting show “The Voice of Germany”. The funk band FATCAT from Freiburg, on the other hand, is no longer a newcomer and has even been on the main stage of the Montreux Jazz Festival. The concert film series “WeLive on Tour” will release their first joint concert film with titles by Hannah Wilhelm and FATCAT on 20 June 2021, so you can look forward to it!

Show “The Voice of Germany” bundesweite Bekanntheit. Juni 2021. Man darf also gespannt sein!

Julien Daïan Quintet, Alex Tassel – September Nine (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Jazz, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“The level of musicianship displayed by the Julien Daian Quintet on the track ‘September Nine’ from the album ‘Cut-Up’ is quite breath-taking. Constantly shifting rhythms, melodies & dynamics being the perfect vehicle for the variety of superb solos. The track has a traditional feel good vibe that will lift your spirits, kiss your ears & feed your mind. This is definitely an album to add to your collection.”

-Nagamag.com

EN - Loose cannon innovator of French Jazz Julien Daian is back at the helm of the Julien Daian Quintet for their third album CUT-UP, 10 tracks creating a deeply personal montage drawn from influences and experience, of emotions and memories, of landscapes and longings. True to form he steers Jazz forms into uncharted waters in collusion with Hip Hop, heavy electronic beats, hypnotic tribal rhythms, reggae touches and always an unstoppable groove. How do you make three “Groundbreaking” albums in a row? Ask Julien Daian, CUT-UP proves he knows exactly how it’s done.

https://www.instagram.com/juliendaianquintet/

CUT UP, is the third album from the Julien Daian Quintet (JDQ), led, of course, by Julien Daian, the audacious, reckless innovator who earned his stripes as the maverick of French Jazz. Incapable of compromise as he creates music of its time and place with the vocabulary of his own lived experience. Known for bringing Jazz into uncharted waters in collusion with Hip Hop forms, heavy electronic beats and hypnotic tribal rhythms.

Picking up the vibe and momentum of JDQ’s first two albums French Paradox and Behind the Reef, the ten tracks on CUT UP really break new ground, taking this vision, this compulsion to greater heights and ever deeper depths. This isn’t about fusion, it never was. The mastery lies in Daian’s supreme ability at divining the natural points of confluence between forms, where jazz, hip hop, dub and electronica merge naturally, creating a sound and a vibe that speaks eloquently of the moment it comes into being. Each track is a unique and vivid expression, an episode in an album that forms, as a whole, a varied and provocative freefall soundscape. A deeply personal patchwork, a montage drawn from influences and experience, of emotions and memories, of landscapes and longings.

Summoning a deeply sunny reggae vibe, through Jazz themed progressions, Daian remembers the Patate Records 45’s of his youth, bringing in Luciano and Mikey General on vocals to crystalize the magic on Bring Some Love, a call to the good times yet to come, an irrepressible expression of hope and the power of unity. While Everybody Love me is straight up and down Jazz informed Hip Hop (think New York with a Spike Lee twist) as North Carolinan Rapper Biship Chasten keeps the groove going against a sparse, edgy backdrop.

In the album’s debut single Trop C’est Trop (Too Much is Too Much) the spirit of Serge Gainsbourg is brought into play as his vocal from Ecce homo et caetera is woven through an urban smokescreen of ever intensifying mood and syncopation, and you just know he would have loved it beyond doubt. Right on the edge, an unstoppable, shuffling groove, a hint of a cult 70’s detective theme perhaps? Layer by layer, beat by beat, the menace moves forward as a tribal chorus illuminates the shadows it casts. A sound that could just as easily send the listener on an unknown highway as to the dancefloor.

Michael Taylor – Fighting Gravity (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“Undeniably, ‘Fighting Gravity’ by Michael Taylor is a Nashville influenced tragic love anthem that is not entirely obvious. (The Nashville influence that is) Michael’s instinct for melody shines through the song giving it a highly charged emotional feel. The song also has an Americana, Folk-Rock flavour. Think Tom Petty meets Keith Urban. A great debut from an artist we will be hearing a lot more from.”

-Nagamag.com

Fighting Gravity is a pop anthem breakup song about the tragic premonition that a relationship is unsalvageable- that all your efforts to save it just show it can't work. It's the moment you pull the eject lever instead of crashing in a doomed attempt to fly...

Heartbeat drums punctuate heartbreak in reflective verses, searching piano riffs echo with desperate hope, and the anthemic chorus explodes like nosediving plane in a mayday call.

"We're only fighting gravity... Some people weren't made to fly."

If truth is a hard to-come-by commodity, singer/songwriter Michael Taylor has an antidote. The southern native's honest voice is at the very core of his music. Southern born, mid-west raised and now Nashville-bound, this musical storyteller proudly wears his heart on his sleeve. His songs weave human emotion through a transcendent voice and a stunning instinct for melody.

Working with Australian wunderkind producer Andrew Furze, he spent months crafting his debut EP, collaborating closely with pop luminary Hayley Warner (Katy Perry, Tori Kelly). The result is a stunning debut that blends sharp pop sensibilities with the finest tradition of Americana folk and rock. Petty-ish grooves, Hozier-like gospel influences and a Shawn Mendes-esque pop smarts - it’s a compelling combination.

Born in the heart of southern Virginia, raised in Minnesota and now plying his trade in Nashville, Michael Taylor is an exciting new talent who’s journey in some ways is just beginning.

Creature Comfort – Light Boy (New Hue) (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“A finely balanced, perfectly produced blending of a finger picked acoustic guitar and male/female vocals give a refreshing, clear & vibrant warm to the beginning of the track. The additional drums, bass, keys & distorted electric guitar are skilfully stacked over-time lift the track to even greater heights & include a tremolo gated effect that adds even more interest to an already absorbing song.”

-Nagamag.com

"'Light Boy' was a song off of our EP Echoes & Relics which came out in 2016. Around that time, one of my friends and roommates Alex Robinson had a little studio setup at our house. One day I go over to him as he's working and he goes, "Listen to this." He was recording his own version of 'Light Boy.' The chord progression was different, the melody was the same but it was really refreshing to hear in a folk styling that I don't traditionally write in. Flash forward three years and he's now a member of our band. I really liked the version of this track that he created with the folk sensibility that he brought, so we decided to bring the entire band to the studio and added in some slide and drums and bass. My favorite little nugget of trivia about it is at the end of the song, you can hear a sound recording from Al's grandparents' cabin in the middle of nowhere North Carolina, where we were just recording nature, and you can hear a bird gently chirping in the background."

https://www.creaturecomfortband.com/epk

"The song is about feeling chemistry with someone and really thinking a relationship is going to develop when the reality of the situation is that a romantic connection isn't there. It's a song describing the emotions I felt at the time, and when I was let down, I wanted that person to remember me and what we could have been.
