The first steps into this future-retro pop-rock/rnb-song started with compiling background melodies from 80s Finnish rock influenced by some Central and South American tunes. From there, the song began to mold into its form with an intentionally contemporary production blended with 80s to early 90s elements.

After getting the track ready for vocals, the songwriting continued in the Netherlands by a talented topliner, Monty Wells. He created his characteristic and catchy “The Weeknd/Michael Jackson”-style lead vocals and lyrics. The final vocal arrangement was finished in Finland at Soulhouse Unit studio.

To us, the storyline follows a theme of warning about the dangers of getting lost or selling your soul in show business. Still, on the other hand, it gives confidence that taking the longer and a bit harder route often can pay off better—many first-alluring things can turn out to be just one big illusion. The song’s lighter side is simply having fun and taking chances: “chasing stars on boulevards” with friends.

Chasing Stars contains many secret “easter eggs” as tributes to the famous artists and their music styles that influenced SHUN’s music-making over the years (Billy Ocean, Lionel Richie/The Commodores, Lenny Kravitz, Michael Jackson, Timbaland, Phil Collins, among others). There is even a tiny part where the drum style was momentarily drawn from the early 2000s UK/garage (which maybe nobody notices =D). And finally, as the style was meant to be 2022 future-retro, some contemporary electro/pop production methods were included in the final fusion.

This SHUN song was mixed primarily with vintage gear this time, the main console being a uniquely modified Soundcraft SAC2000 analog radio station console (special thanks to a great Ukrainian-Finnish musician, Andre Solomko).

Kadebostany returns with the flamboyant “Another Sunrise”! On this new single, architect of future pop Guillaume de Kadebostany delivers edgy hybrid productions, surrounded by the singular vocals of Paris-based Fang The Great, and anthemic Ukrainian chants. A cultural smash turned into a twisted pop anthem, evoking a sense of grandeur, hope and freedom.

“Another Sunrise” was premiered in June 2022 at the iconic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, in front of a 20’000 crowd. An epic performance which caught a lot of attention; various live extracts cumulate several million views on social networks in less than a month.

“Another Sunrise” was originally recorded between Kyiv and Paris in 2020. The song features one of Kadebostany’s new live singer Fang The Great, and the Ukrainian singers Daryna Salii, Iryna Sizyk, and Vasylyna Tkachuk.

“This track is my favourite off my new body of work,” says Callum. “It’s probably because it hits so close to home for me. Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Gidon Carmel is giving life to the third single from his latest concept album, GOABI – a songwriting collaboration between 14 acts from Berlin’s thriving dark folk, pop, rock, experimental and electronic scenes.

This new single, ‘The Ocean’ is released today. It is co-written and created by indie pop duo, Amistat, with vocal contribution from Australian singer-songwriter Coby Grant.

The Ocean is a gentle, uplifting and atmospheric interlude that glues together the Goabi narrative, Carmel’s concept album that centers on the fictional character Goabi the Alien, an intergalactic being who falls from the sky to a harsh fate on planet earth.

“It’s the moment where Goabi feels a sense of kinship to his new surroundings on earth, where he’s reminded of a feeling of his home – even though he is so far away from it, so it’s mostly a strange illusion,” says Carmel of the new single.

The Ocean, and entire Goabi album, was recorded and co-produced in Berlin’s Famous Gold Watch Studios collectively by Carmel, Cameron James Laing (Universal), and UK producer and instrumentalist Tim Hook.

The Ocean again illustrates how strong and moving Carmel’s production, songwriting, and arranging is – a masterwork that poignantly evokes themes of alienation, loneliness, and a deep sense of in-between-ness.

Estani has always given fans and followers an open window into her personality by putting her psyche on display in her music. Her lyrics for “Mr. Personality” came from a much-needed venting session after the challenges presented within a few working relationships hit a boiling point. From start to finish, the song’s instrumental brings this experience to life with its upbeat drums, driving bass line, and dominating horn parts that set the entire tone and mood. Describing the difficult relationships that inspired the song, Estani says, “working with people where nothing is ever enough gets tiring really quickly along with the constant feeling of needing to prove yourself. Eventually, it either breaks you down or you have a wake up call, realize your self worth, and find the validation you need within yourself rather than trying to find it through others opinions.” While not everyone has been in that situation, the anonymously described “Mr. Personality” in the song is a persona that many can paint their own image of, with their own experience being undervalued and underappreciated. Working in environments where you’re still viewed as the person you were when you first met, rather than seeing the growth, maturity, and arc of who you’re becoming is a difficult wall to break down when the lack of respect is constantly apparent. Hard as it can be, breaking things off can be life-changing for the better.

The “Mr. Personality” visual takes viewers back to the ’50s to show an imbalance of power and attention, as one person is being taken for granted until the advantageous person sees first hand what they have lost. Estani opens the video behind the counter of a retro-style diner, serving her man coffee and breakfast, which he rejects. Later, she plays a housewife; after she straightens the living room area of the home she shares with her husband in her fine dress, he shows displeasure with the condition as he lounges around. Whether at home with his wife or in public with those in the service industry, “Mr. Personality” is a man that treats all women with the same lack of care and respect, leaving every woman he interacts with unhappy. Eventually, Estani snaps. She quits waiting on him hand and foot, literally throwing his breakfast and cleaning towel at him as she walks away from the one-sided relationship. Only after she has left does Mr. Personality realize what he had – meanwhile, Estani is ready to enjoy her newfound freedom without needing to be validated by anyone else. Fashionable in her all-black dress and wide-brimmed hat, Estani performs the lyrics to the seemingly empty shell that is Mr. Personality. The final clip of the video seals the project off perfectly, spotlighting Estani’s recognition that she is worth more and is back in control of her life without Mr. Personality there to rule it.
