Ásgeir’s absolutely magical new record, “Time On My Hands” out October 28 on One Little Independent. Alongside the announce he’s also released the first listen from the LP, single (and stunning video) “Snowblind”, an icy electronic ballad that fuses crisp beats with elated, expressive intensity. Driving synths rise dramatically while drums crack through the layered production beneath them – and amidst it all, Ásgeir’s singular, pure voice weaves a narrative that recalls the sparse and dark roads of his Icelandic hometown.

As one of Iceland’s most successful exports, Ásgeir has spent the time between his record-breaking debut (now celebrating its 10th anniversary) and today pushing the boundaries of his textured, thoughtful brand of folk-pop. ‘Time On My Hands’ sees Ásgeir in a state of self-reflection and experimentation. On this album he’s entered new realms of composition, sensitively layering acoustics with electronics and brass. As with some of his previous work, Ásgeir plays with euphoric and choral elements of electronic pop music while keeping a tight grasp on the introspective, vocal-lead style of the acoustica that made him famous.

It’s clear from the beginning that the collection is built around visuals of glacial scenery as Ásgeir soars above a frosty terrain of enchanting melodic soundscapes with cinematic lucidity. The rolling landscapes aesthetic of the record was inspired by Ásgeirs own relationship with music over the last two years, consuming mostly while he was running outdoors, or while on long drives. He says that “some of the albums or music that stand out from that time were Caribou’s album Suddenly, Caroline Polichek-Pang, Dijon, Altopalo, Big Thief, Michael Kiwanuka, Sault, Ethan Gruska, Blake Mills and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. This music probably has something to do with how the record came out, combined with earlier influences.”

The whole album asks us to allow ourselves to glide over borders, both the physical, the ones we put up ourselves, and those between reality and imagination. It’s about freedom, the desire for adventure, and taking flight to escape isolation, as well as appreciating the natural wonders that surround us every day.

15th July 2022, London UK: Critically acclaimed producer turned solo artist S-X increases anticipation for his debut studio album with brand new single ‘It’s Over Now’, released today.

The fourth release from his upcoming album, ‘It’s Over Now’ is written and produced by S-X and follows a trio of successful singles from this project: ‘Locked Out’ ft. The track’s music video, directed by Troy Roscoe, is full of nighttime escapism, with dark and enigmatic shots of S-X alongside the emotional sentiment of the track. Roscoe extends his repertoire as a trend-setting film director with this video, having previously worked with artists such as Stefflon Don, Kojo Funds, Giggs, Yungblud, Fredo, Chunkz.

S-X says; ‘It’s Over Now represents the true meaning of being done with a situation, whether a relationship or an addiction for example. It’s relatable to whatever the listener feels. But for me it’s about being truly done with a relationship, not allowing myself to put a single ounce of energy into that anymore. It’s over now.’

From the release of his critically acclaimed EP ‘A Repeat Wouldn’t Go A Miss’ last year to his collaborations with the industry’s biggest names including Lil Wayne, Childish Gambino, Chance The Rapper, J. Cole and Skepta; S-X’s sounds have long been shaping the industry. As a songwriter, Maddie Carpenter has the innate ability to dive into headspaces and explore situations she’s never been in, and “You” is a stellar example of her talents. The track, out July 8, is a devastating bedroom-pop song which seeks to unravel the complicated emotions which rise to the surface when a longstanding romantic relationship comes to an end. “As much as I try to hold my younger self with love, as her experiences were much different than mine are now, I cringe at some of the naivety of my writing. ‘You,’ is different though,” Carpenter explains. “It has always stuck out as true through the years. I love singing it, performing it, and listening to it grow and change in small ways over time.” Written in her childhood bedroom at the age of 17, the track is undeniably mature in the way that Carpenter is able to draw out a sense of poignant longing not just with her melodious coo but most brilliantly, with her words. Tinged with melancholy, Carpenter sings, “wash these trembling hands and turn your gray skies blue. I don’t know anymore what I should and should not do. You say, ‘take all that I have and I will wrap you in my arms.’ I was fooled by the greatness of everything you are. Thought it was you.”

There is something undeniably effortless about “You” as Carpenter taps into her artistry and captures a depth of emotion which isn’t easy to articulate. “At the point in my life that I wrote ‘You’ several of my closest friend’s parents were going through divorces or separations. This song was kind of my way of understanding the unraveling of a long term relationship, or what I imagined it felt like,” she says. Despite never having experienced a meaningful romantic relationship at the time, Carpenter skillfully explores what it’s like to reflect on love lost and make room for an uncertain future without the comforts of a former partner. “As much as it is a sad song, I find it hopeful as it makes space for a new start and finding what you truly want for yourself or from a potential partner.”
