David Park, leader of the Toronto, Canada-based indie-rock band Arkson, is keenly equipped to capture the kinetic energy of now. He is a classical and jazz trained composer with an education in film composition, his diverse background enables him to honor many rich heritages while bursting through temporal and genre boundaries. Fittingly, his upcoming series of singles are eclectically standalone.

David formed Arkson in 2015 when he was still in high school and, since then, Arkson has released 3 EPs, 2 singles, and performed at some Toronto’s most prestigious small venues, including the Horseshoe Tavern and the Monarch Tavern. Arkson was set to be travelling to Portugal in the summer of 2020 as ambassadors for the Bracara Cup in Braga, as they were recently asked to write and perform the inaugural tournament anthem for July 2020. Unfortunately, the tournament has been postponed due to COVID-19.

David’s lyrics seek to frame the divide between past and present, and to capture the moments he experiences. This thematic through line may have something to do with this family, who moved around often as he was growing up. “It gave me a perspective that I don’t think you get when you are stationary. Permanent things felt temporary for me. I always had to make new friends, and I had a feeling like I didn’t belong anywhere but could also fit in everywhere,” he shares.

The single, Victory, was written to be the anthem song for Lank FC and the Bracara Cup in Portugal for the summer of 2020. The song is impactfully arranged, building from ethereal indie rock to emotive anthemics before climaxing with opulent orchestral final chorus. “It is meant to be an intense, energetic pump-up song which captures the spirit of sport—pushing as hard as you can towards the goal, never giving up, and never stopping,” David says. Its words viscerally capture the quest for excellence. Key lyrics include: Shooting high, shooting low/Running fast, thinking slow/We’re fighting till the end, and we’ll do it all again/If I fall before the goal, you’ll see me crawling for it all, And we’ll do it all again.

The second video promoting Roman Wróblewski’s debut album is a brutal record of the history of
progressive addiction, in which the main focus is on the tragedy and nature of this disease.
Unlike his other two music videos, this time Wróblewski plays the protagonist himself, abandoning
the collaboration with experienced dancers. Thanks to this move, the image gains authenticity and
the natural movements of the main character give it a personal touch. In the choreography created
by Roman Wróblewski, the three key moments are the silent screams of the addict, inaudible to the
viewer and at the same time incomprehensible for the alcoholic himself. These screams are filled
with anger, fear and madness. Moreover, in the awe-inspiring image we find symbols of decline,
suffering and the struggle that the unconscious addict has with his illness.
The video complements the song “Into Shadow” – a sad and catchy melody dominates the whole
composition and is highlighted by a beautiful accompaniment and a looped motif building tension.
The cinematic character of the music on Roman Wróblewski’s new album finds a special place in
this video, adding a dark tone and emphasizing the tragedy of the main character.
The video is a very intimate statement from Roman. To shoot it, exactly 2555 bottles of alcohol
were used, which is the number of days corresponding to 7 years of active addiction of the author
of the video. The progressive change of the main character and the increasing number of bottles in
the video highlights the evolution of the disease until the climactic scene where the video focuses
on the social nature of addiction and the isolation resulting from the disease’s progression.

DJ Bruce Blanchard’s roots lay in African beats and more specifically, Lingala music. During the first lockdown is when he created his first song ‘Sakana’ in collaboration with Enikao productions. ‘Sakana’ means ‘to play’ in Lingala, which directly refers to him starting his career playing as a DJ. He specifically created this song to lift people’s spirits during the Lockdown. Now he has curated a playlist called ” Afro Tech” which focuses on African-style songs, but provides a mixture with tech and house music. The list is for him his current favourite 30 songs which fall under the style of Afro tech. Soon, he will be releasing a new single which will follow the same African base. This song, which is a lounge party song in Lingala, will be focused on moving away from lockdown and restarting our future where we will hopefully meet each other again in the party scene!

Takeyce, the Jamaican-Canadian singer-songwriter and daughter of Jamaica’s “pioneer of Gospel,”—Claudelle Clarke, has been following in her mother’s footsteps since the age of five. Blending the genres of reggae dancehall, worldbeat, afrobeat, funk, and at times, ska, Takeyce users her deep and soulful voice to captivate her listeners.

Her newest single “Warrior King,” takes the listener into a somewhat mythical world where a woman sings about her “warrior king,” a person the woman relies on and is striving to find their “true soul spirit,” in a world full of distractions. The track is funky with its laidback chorus bassline and Takeyce’s voice shines at the front as she harmonizes with herself and occasionally raps to the beat. Her voice is uplifting and powerful and the production by Dr. Tab gives the illusion that she is singing right in front of the listener.

“It gives a reggae dancehall afro flow; a fantastic way to end such a difficult year and set the vibes for a hopeful and joyful new one,” Takeyce says.

DEFTICK is a Techno/Electro/Experimental project by Rafael Wiederkehr (Suncollector) and André Huwiler (DJ Dex) from Switzerland. With their combined skills, they drive us through a world of powerful-groovy soundscapes – always very well balanced to activate our mind and feet.

After playing at psytrance parties for more than 20 years and creating more and more songs in the studio that didn’t fit into the concept, they decided to start the side project DEFTICK.

This is where all the songs that have been created over the years find their place.

The result is a sound that doesn’t like to fit into concepts. From Techno over Electro up to Downtempo everything is represented.
