“Fat synth Bass line and that catchy muffled clap. The track has good energy and simple engaging lyrics. Guitar provides a way into the poetry as the chorus takes over. ”

5ON5 is a collaborative music project based in Berlin, Germany, and consisting of four distinctly unique artists who’ve come together to make music that, in their own words, is “a little new, a little naughty, and a bit different.” The quartet itself is a bit different, its members spanning two generations and coming from very different music backgrounds. The brainchild of Max Koffler, a singer-songwriter, musician and producer with over 20 years of experience in the music industry, and who’s previously released two albums Taboo and GAMES as a solo artist, the project is based on his cooperatin with young singer-songwriter, rapper and producer $INAN (aka Sinan Pakar) with rapper and visual artist Maxx B and singer and texter Yumin joining in. Their unusual name 5ON5 was born out of Max’s music label sonsounds, and reflects their eclectic mix of music genres and styles, including EDM, synthpop, hip hop and alternative rock.

Constant Follower – The Merry Dancers on TV (Official Shimmy-Disc Video) (Video)

Categories: Features, Pop, Pop Features, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“Feel good and dreamy is the expression of this imaginative sound. Constant Follower has done it, bottled up the sounds of a beautiful dream . ”

-Nagamag.com

*Video premiered on Brooklyn Vegan, Glide Magazine, Indie Music Blog and A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed. We’re looking for video/song coverage from Friday 20th Aug.

“The Merry Dancers on TV is gently affecting. A haunting ramble pitched at the place occupied by both Arab Strap and Bon Iver, this elegantly mellow song is something special indeed. It also helps that the video for the composition is just as memorable.” A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed

“The Merry Dancers on TV combines the introspective chamber folk of Fleet Foxes and The Frames, atop a mystical nod laid beneath stunning simplicity.” Glide Magazine

“The Merry Dancers on TV is a lovely piece of delicate folk rock and comes with a gorgeous stop-motion animated video.” Brooklyn Vegan

The Merry Dancers on TV is the first single from Constant Follower’s debut album ‘Neither Is, Nor Ever Was’ on the legendary Shimmy Disc label (Low, Galaxie 500, Daniel Johnston, Bonnie Prince Billy).

In ‘Scots’ (a traditional language spoken in Scotland), natural phenomena are often given beautiful phrasing – the ‘Merry Dancers’ of the song being the Scots term for the Aurora Borealis. The song speaks to the things in life we miss in the bustle and stresses of modern living. In writing the song, McAll was thinking of a particular episode where friends missed the real Merry Dancers above their cottage whilst they were indoors watching a documentary about them.

Co-produced by Scottish singer-songwriter Stephen McAll and renowned producer and Shimmy-Disc founder Kramer (Low, Galaxie 500, Will Oldham), the recording for Neither Is, Nor Ever Was began in early 2020 at La Chunky studios in Glasgow with engineer Johnny Smillie. This was interrupted by the birth of McAll’s daughter (if you listen closely, her cries are just audible during some of Kessi’s backing vocals on ‘Little Marble’), and shortly afterwards by Covid 19 restrictions. McAll began recording the rest at his own CFFC studio in Stirling. The resulting recordings were then mixed and mastered by Kramer at his Noise Miami Studio, to breathtaking effect.

Each album track is accompanied by its own short film. McAll sought-out the most exciting new talents in Scottish film and animation and invited them to be part of the album project. Each video, the artist’s personal response to the song, with no direction or interference from the band, resulting in incredibly moving and enchanting short ‘films’ in their own right (with multiple film festival considerations including Edinburgh International Film Festival and Manchester Film Festival in process).

“Making art together is something that transcends any distance and that was definitely confirmed over the period of making this film. Being able to work with a local band while being trusted with such a stunning song made any physical distance feel obsolete. Constant Follower’s choice to work with new and emerging artists for their videos meant that I, as an artist, was able to create something unlike anything I’ve had the ability to before. This is my second foray into stop motion and I have learned so much from this project alone- skills that would have taken me years to learn in any other setting. The film, at its core; is about connection and how easy it is to lose it if we start taking things for granted in life. I liked the idea that even the moon herself could tire of being taken for granted and head off on a holiday only for one child to notice it missing and go on a voyage to let it know how much it is loved and respected.” – Fiona (Video Director)

“One of the most beautiful records I have ever been privileged to be a part of, filled to the very brim with moment after moment of poetic clarity, and not a moment too late…an interior force to be reckoned with. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it. It weaves elements of the past around a future I was wholly unaware of before hearing these breath-taking songs, each one a kind of memorial to a memory that may or may not have merely been imagined or hoped into existence.” – Kramer

Jenny Kern – Where Did The Time Go (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“The sound in -Where Did The Time Go- is like a transparent river or a small waterfall. The likes of Indie and Dream Pop genres with charming vocals of -Jenny Kern- contribute to this. The mood is exciting and at the same time calm and serene. A real gift for hungry listener souls.”

“Звучание в -Where Did The Time Go- похоже на прозрачную реку или небольшой водопад. Этому способствуют жанры Indie и Dream Pop и очаровательный вокал -Jenny Kern-. Настроение волнующее и в то же время спокойное и безмятежное. Настоящий подарок для изголодавшихся душ.”

-Nagamag.com

Few words from the artist about this song:

“Where Did The Time Go” is a relentlessly honest song about a constant struggle with anxiety. "I started writing this song in the midst of the pandemic while having an existential crisis of not knowing what my purpose was or why I was existing." The production is layered with lush synths and vivacious rhythms all while addressing the decidedly heavy search for life’s meaning. It strikes the listener with a kind of honest confusion. In a gentle tone, Jenny throws questions into the universe (“Where did the good go?/Where did it go?”) and seems to give up before they’re answered (“Cause I don’t know, I don’t know where to go anymore,” and later, “Maybe there’s nothing left/Maybe there’s nothing left”). Ultimately this song doesn’t put on a front or filter the darker thoughts and shows that with each release Jenny’s sound feels bigger and brighter than the last.

James Blake – Life Is Not The Same (Official Lyric Video) (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , |

“-Life Is Not The Same- one of those compositions that you just need to feel with all your gut. The amazing process of expressing the feelings and emotions of the author with the help of instruments and vocals. Unique rhythm and almost extraterrestrial melody. When the music speaks more than words.”

“-Life Is Not The Same- из тех композиций, которую нужно просто почувствовать всем своим нутром. Удивительный процесс излияния чувств и эмоций автора с помощью инструментов и голоса. Необычный ритм и практически внеземная мелодия. -Life Is Not The Same- тот самый случай, когда музыка всё скажет сама за себя.”

Today, Mercury Music Prize and GRAMMY® Award winning UK singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer James Blake has released new single “Life Is Not The Same”.

A collaboration with hit producer duo Take A Daytrip , (who notably co-produced the Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow track, “Industry Baby,” with Kanye West), “Life Is Not The Same” is the second track to be lifted from James’ forthcoming fifth studio album, Friends That Break Your Heart (out 10th September 2021).

Showing the scope that his body of work will span, “Life Is Not The Same” gives a larger view of what’s to come on the album. Featuring introspective lyrics and a dreamlike melody, the track proves Blake’s masterful range and bold vulnerability. It follows the album’s critically acclaimed first single, “Say What You Will” – which saw The Fader laud Blake for “locking into fragile melodies and bold compositional swings with ease”. The accompanying official music video was directed by Bear Damen and features a guest appearance from Finneas.

Friends That Break Your Heart follows the Covers EP – a collection of Blake’s favourite covers, including his cover of Frank Ocean’s “Godspeed” (which generated over 5 million views on TikTok) – and his 2019 released, GRAMMY® nominated album Assume Form which was his highest charting album in both the UK and US to date.

More recently James worked with Dave on his no. 1 second studio album We’re All Alone In This Together and featured on Slowthai’s chart topping album TYRON.

James Blake’s first new full-length album in two years, Friends That Break Your Heart, will feature collaborations from JID & SwaVay, Monica Martin and SZA. James worked closely with British artist Miles Johnston to design a cover reflective of the album. The result is a visual encapsulation of the emotions brought forth throughout the body of work.

JAMES BLAKE’S “LIFE IS NOT THE SAME”, RELEASED VIA POLYDOR RECORDS IN THE UK, IS AVAILABLE ACROSS ALL PLATFORMS NOW:

Ian Abel – All I Want Is You (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“-Ian Abel- is a real master and professional in arrangement, which in his new single -all I Want IS You- artificially turns a simple melody and the groove of Electro Pop into one unimaginable one-piece sound.”

“-Ian Abel- настоящий мастер и профессионал в сведение и аранжировке, который в своём новом сингле -All I Want Is You- искусно превращает простую мелодию и ритм Electro Pop в одно невообразимо цельное звучание.”

-Nagamag.com

Ian Abel released his newest single, “All I Want Is You,” a devilish and disorienting love song just in time for the world’s #shotgirlsummer hangover.

“All I Want Is You” is a chaotic, unexpected mashup of genres and references: Abel’s sultry, soulful vocals are layered over a funk bassline, 80s synthesizers, distorted rock guitars, and background vocals inspired by Steely Dan and David Bowie... all folded into a twistingly dark synth-pop confection.

“I wanted to write something you could listen to over and over and keep discovering new sounds, layers, and meanings,” says Abel. “More than that, though, I wanted to capture the feeling of out-of-control, delusional obsession. I really relate to that feeling [chuckle].”

Underlying the track is its demented queer narrative, which is expanded upon in Abel’s irreverent DIY lyric video, where he messages the lyrics to anonymous, faceless men on the gay dating app Grindr.

“All those headless torsos on the apps are such teases,” remarked Ian. “Why not have a little fun and tease them back?”

https://www.facebook.com/ianabelmusic/

Ian Abel (pronounced “able”) is, at the bottom of it all, a queer comic book nerd with a heart of gold. With an oh-so-smooth velvety voice and sensual, psychedelic electro-pop arrangements, he’s like if Sam Smith met Robyn or Jessie Ware met James Blake, all with a side of Peter Gabriel. He’s not just your standard indie voice.

For well over a decade, Ian has been an artist and performer. He has performed around the world and with greats like Nile Rodgers, Jimmy Fallon, and the SNL band. He has sung onstage at Carnegie Hall, on Chinese national television, and in festivals in Sun Valley, New York, and Edinburgh. Currently, Ian resides in New York City, where he hopes to get back to performing live soon.

He released his debut EP “Icarus” in 2016, and his songs and videos have been featured on Howl & Echoes, Wolf In a Suit, Clout, Indietronica, Milk Crater, Mystic Sons, and Spotify’s Fresh Finds

Tassia Zappia – Like Ooh (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“Sultry, smouldering & unique. Three simple words that barely scratch the surface of the fabulously multi-layered talent that is ' Tappia Zappia.' This lady can switch from rich, syrupy down low hum to a vibrant falsetto with consumate ease. The already captivating performace is significantly enhanced by an immaculate instinct for feel & arrangement.”

-Nagamag.com

Earning critical acclaim and enchanting fans around the world, Melbourne singer songwriter Tassia Zappia shares a cheeky and catchy new single entitled “Like Ohh” via Republic Records. Listen to “Like Ohh”— HERE. https://tassiazappia.lnk.to/LikeOohPR

Tassia comments about the new single, “During a writing trip to LA I met a new guy and we really hit it off. After I went back home to Australia, I just couldn't get him off my mind. “Like Ohh" is a sexy, playful song about craving a person knowing you may never see them again. I had the best time making this with my collaborators Lauren Christy, Jon Levine and Entente.”

Translating the tension of a long-distance relationship into a classy bop, the track seesaws on a simmering beat, jazz-y piano, and warbling organ as she croons, “Think it’s crazy we never kissed, tasting my whole body except my lips.” Her vocals flutter from soulful verses into a show-stopping refrain punctuated by impressive runs.

Currently, Tassia has hunkered down in Sydney in quarantine, but her voice has reached audiences everywhere, nevertheless. She continues putting the finishing touches on her debut EP— coming soon. For now, she’ll make you say, “Ohh”.

Tassia Zappia, Italian born in Melbourne, doesn’t gloss over the little things in her music. She approaches her lyrics with a keen eye for detail only amplified by her show-stopping delivery, outsized vocal flare, and free spirit. Listening to the Australian singer and songwriter can feel like being in the room right next to her during some momentous turning point.

As a kid, Tassia discovered Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, and Frank Sinatra through her parents, developing an appreciation for “super old school classics.” Feeling like an outsider, she turned to poetry and music. By 12-years-old, she began writing songs. She discovered Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill and incorporated all of these inspirations into a raw, unfiltered, and soulful style. In 2019, she took a trip to Los Angeles for a music camp that wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Instead, it “felt like Fyre Fest,” but she ended up with her first break, nevertheless. After performing her original composition “When I Was Four” during a visit from chart-topping songwriter Heidi Rojas [Little Mix, Cheryl Cole], she left the audience in tears. Rojas asked for Tassia’s phone number, and they met for coffee a few days later. The following day Heidi took Tassia to a session with Lauren Christy, formerly of The Matrix [Avril Lavigne, David Bowie, Dua Lipa, Bebe Rexha, Rihanna], and this led to Tassia signing a development deal with Heidi and Lauren’s production company. Along the way, she inked a deal with Republic and has since released her much buzzed about singles “You Don’t Want Me” and “When I Was Four.”
