Jem – Lost

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“The new release of “Jem” can draw the line between typical and sopnisticated music. Sentimental chords of guitar accompany some of the most memorable lyrics, while the artist’s fathomless voice adds a kind of unearthly aura in the whole mix.”

-Nagamag.com

Beguiling, alluring and utterly captivating, alternative rock artist and all round mystic Jem has returned with his second cinematic single, the mesmirising ‘Lost’. Following on from the November 2021 release of the spellbinding ‘Secrets’ which marked a rare and enticing debut, Jem partners this initial enchanting entrance into the industry with the next authentic taste of his artistry.

Often writing from the perspective of another and having drawn inspiration from the incredibly moving BAFTA and Academy Award winning film, The Pianist, ‘Lost’ explores the concept of a dystopian world of a man who lost it all. Referred to as the ‘negative realm’ by the artist, Jem shares,

‘The desperation I’ve felt while watching the Pianist stuck with me until recent years, so I’ve started journaling, and the sentiments I’ve felt became real within this song.”

Accompanied again by another visual of momentous beauty, ‘Lost’ is haunting and thick with emotion, directed by Jems older brother Necip Karakas. Taking place in an ancient church, accented with gold and dotted with the warm, gentle glow of candles, a soft spotlight pierces through the windows casting a stream of incandescent rays onto Jem illuminating him against the heavy dark shadows while Jem delicately begins ‘Million years without the sun’.

Almost dreamlike ‘Lost’ is the perfect melismatic blend of Jem’s vocals and the sound of Oud (native Middle Eastern instrument). Layered with undulating electric guitars that call out into the distance as they build and grow into a cathartic release, Jem states that, “Feeling lost is a common theme; it is okay to feel like that; there is nothing wrong with it. When I say it out loud, it makes me feel better. I would want people to take this away.”

Utilising his fluency in vocal registers, Jem travels between them with an unforeseen ease and grace. Pushing the boundaries, both his head and chest voice come together in perfect synthesis creating a tone that speaks to his audience not only musically but also on a spiritual level.

It’s clear that Jem is not here simply to create music; with every release he dives even deeper within himself, each time returning with a new world to bring to the surface. Unafraid to visit places and play with intonations that may be unfamiliar, unusual or even uncomfortable for some, Jem is unapologetic in his authenticity, therein lies the true definition of an artist, one Jem lives and breathes.

“I always felt I was different. I didn’t fit anywhere. And to be fair, I never bothered to be a perfect fit for anyone or anything. Over the course, music happened to be a lens for me to share my alienation.” – JEM

With his debut EP release just on the horizon, ‘Don’t Let Me Disappear’ represents an eclectic medium of transportation whilst showcasing Jems innate ability to display sensitivity within his expression, this project serves as a delicate bridge between worlds just waiting to be explored.

Meelo – Reflets

Categories: Electronica, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“We all have a beat that moves us like spirits through the clouds. It can expose emotions and capture our attention. Ensuring we continue our dace with the mystical realms. This one took us beyond the clouds as we searched for another pert of ourselves. ”

Rising London musician / producer Meelo is poised to announce a brand new release with the arrival of ‘Reflets’, lifted from the forthcoming debut EP ‘Movement 1’ due this April.

Accompanied by a visually stunning choreographed concept video, ‘Reflets’ transcends into a new era, exploring the intricacies of sound, anchored by an emotional, meditative core. Meelo says: “My music explores a deep commitment to the values of introspection, self discovery and healing. We’ve all felt that strange mix of thrill and fear when we’re on the cusp of making a breakthrough, fearing it precisely because it is still in the unknown. Reflet dives into that feeling with a mix of shimmer and depth, unrelenting rhythm.”

When Meelo was well into his career as a touring session player and music therapist, (playing for the likes of Goya Gumbani and Tertia May), he was forced to stop everything on a fateful day when the front wheel of his bike jammed and he broke his arm. Shut away and unable to play he took some time for himself, his production skills and poetry; applying that to his already strong songwriting and compositional abilities he began to build an EP that represented this moment of self-contemplation.

It took another fateful moment to accelerate the project when Meelo met Frankie Mami, international Dj and production engineer master. Sat at the back of a session in Frankie’s studio Meelo slipped in and spun a track he was working on called “Gatto”; Frankie’s ears pricked up, and with a knowing smile the two of them recognised something special. Frankie’s enthusiasm, refined expertise and invaluable guidance propelled the project to new levels and kickstarted a beautiful friendship built on mutual respect and sharing.

Movement 1 is joyous, and at times despairing but loaded with the momentum and power that comes with exploring one’s self. It’s the result of years of the artist trying to find his way, releasing the fears of the past and ultimately finding his voice. Ambitious in his genre-spanning scope and fiercely committed to the redemptive quality of music, Meelo’s story can be heard and felt on every note of his debut EP.

WITH HER BOLD NEW BREAK-UP TUNE, EMILY CLAIR ASKS NEWLY-SINGLE WOMEN TO “KISS STRANGERS” AND LEAVE YESTERDAY’S HEARTBREAK BEHIND

Canadian country artist Emily Clair is celebrating the release of her new single, “Kiss Strangers” – now available on all digital streaming platforms. The first single to be released from her first full-length album, “Stealing Hearts”, “Kiss Strangers” will be released to Canadian country radio on March 18th.

“Kiss Strangers” was co-written by Emily Clair along with Bobbi Smith – of Canadian country trio The Heels – and seasoned songwriter David Borys (Wes Mack, Kadooh).

Speaking about “Kiss Strangers”, Emily Clair says, "In country music, women are often presented as dwelling on past relationships by drowning in a box of ice cream or a bottle of wine. I wanted to break away from that perception and offer a fresh take on the post-relationship mindset. With Bobbi and David, wrote a sassy and empowering break-up anthem for all the strong, single women out there who want to let go of yesterday's heartbreak. Starting over doesn’t have to be so sad. The thrill of indulging in new adventures can also be fun and liberating."

Produced by Emily Clair's frequent collaborator, CMAO-nominated Shawn Moore, “Kiss Strangers” builds on Emily's country music foundation, but adds a more upbeat, pop-influenced flair that matches the adventurous theme and energy of the song.

The release of “Kiss Strangers” follows the artist’s well-received debut live-off-the-floor EP “Stripped” in 2021, along with five consecutive Top 40 singles on CBC Country/Sirius XM in Canada – the most recent ones being her 2021 efforts, “Drive Me Home” and “Limousine”. Two of the other Top 40 singles (“The Sobering Truth” and “Me or the Whiskey”) also made the semi-finals of the Unsigned Only Music Competition.

For Emily Clair – who grew up in Ajax, Ontario but is now based in Greater Napanee – the bold artistry behind “Kiss Strangers” is poised to usher in a new chapter for her, as the first single from her debut album, “Stealing Hearts”, which is in the early recording stages. Known primarily for her heartfelt ballads, “Kiss Strangers” shows more diversity, and the rest of the album promises to showcase more artistic depth and creative risks from her as an artist. In the meantime, Emily Clair wants the women who connect with “Kiss Strangers” to feel understood and uplifted after listening to her new single.

She says, “You don't have to be that girl who is grieving over heartache. We’ve all been there before. If your ex can move on, you have the strength to move on, too."

“Kiss Strangers” is now available on all streaming platforms. It will be followed by a Canadian country radio release on March 18th and an official music video release in the weeks ahead.
