Fate Under Fire started as a promise. Growing up, David James was told by his single mother to do what you love. This echoed through him and followed his childhood as he transitioned in bands from drummer, guitarist, to songwriter and producer, and graduating SFSU only to bid his mom her final farewell after battling cancer. Feeling his mother die within his arms, after years of hope, scarred him deeper than anything ever could.
Throughout the years, releasing 2 EP’s, multiple tours, cover videos, and self produced songs and music videos, FUF has seen extensive success between winning MTVu’s Freshman Five competition and songs getting picked up left and right for television including the theme song for NBC’s TODAY SHOW and getting best song of 2018 (La La Love) in Music Connection Magazine. Most recently writing the theme package for THE DREW BARRYMORE SHOW the only new syndicated show from a major network in 2020 due to Covid. The next single “Rising Up” debuts August 4th 2023 as already seen on NBC’s “LA Fire & Rescue”

(Anthony Passante-Contaldi) also makes significant contributions to GPS’s explorations through an abundance of keyboard sounds and some compositions of his own. Styles of influence include fusion jazz/nü jazz, hip-hop/R&B, prog/math rock, avant-garde/free jazz, and even sometimes classical. After remote recording and releasing two singles during the 2020-21 quarantine era (“Yumeni” and “I-76 (feat. Martronimous)”), GPS released their debut album, [to the stratosphere], on all streaming platforms in late 2022, primarily recorded and produced at Studio 4 Recording in Conshohocken and featuring all original music by Preston. Since that time, the band has only been willing to reach further distances both physically and musically, within the Philly area and beyond, knowing they will always be able to deliver a little something for everyone in the process. Recent performances of note include the WXPN 88.5 Key Studio Session led by John Vettese, and the 2023 Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia. GPS plans to record and release new music later on in 2024, with at least an EP and album in the works.
