Granite to Glass – There’s Nothing Quite Like Missing You (Connecticut Welcome Center)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“This voice is so sensual that it feels like the singer is right next to you. He has a guitar in his hands, a lonely flame of a bonfire burns out at his feet in the night and thoughts of desperate loss are haunting his mind.”

“Голос настолько чувственный, что появляется ощущение, как будто вокалист находится рядом с тобой. В руках у него гитара, у ног догорает одинокое пламя костра в ночи, а высоко в небо улетают тысячи остывающих в мгновение угольков, чей пепел уносят в высь южные ветра.”

Artist said about this song:

"I wrote this song for someone I was in love with who passed away suddenly. In the song, I recount older solo touring days where I'd go out alone, and at night I'd have to look for a spot to safely sleep in my car. The hopelessness and loneliness I felt in those moments was just like the feeling of missing her desperately. The fact that you can be well within in a city, but never actually be touching "New York." A sort of invisible distance, even though you are so incredibly close. But nonetheless, even in my tiny car, alone and cold, there was nowhere I would rather be, because I will never stop missing her."

Jem – Lost

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“The new release of “Jem” can draw the line between typical and sopnisticated music. Sentimental chords of guitar accompany some of the most memorable lyrics, while the artist’s fathomless voice adds a kind of unearthly aura in the whole mix.”

-Nagamag.com

Beguiling, alluring and utterly captivating, alternative rock artist and all round mystic Jem has returned with his second cinematic single, the mesmirising ‘Lost’. Following on from the November 2021 release of the spellbinding ‘Secrets’ which marked a rare and enticing debut, Jem partners this initial enchanting entrance into the industry with the next authentic taste of his artistry.

Often writing from the perspective of another and having drawn inspiration from the incredibly moving BAFTA and Academy Award winning film, The Pianist, ‘Lost’ explores the concept of a dystopian world of a man who lost it all. Referred to as the ‘negative realm’ by the artist, Jem shares,

‘The desperation I’ve felt while watching the Pianist stuck with me until recent years, so I’ve started journaling, and the sentiments I’ve felt became real within this song.”

Accompanied again by another visual of momentous beauty, ‘Lost’ is haunting and thick with emotion, directed by Jems older brother Necip Karakas. Taking place in an ancient church, accented with gold and dotted with the warm, gentle glow of candles, a soft spotlight pierces through the windows casting a stream of incandescent rays onto Jem illuminating him against the heavy dark shadows while Jem delicately begins ‘Million years without the sun’.

Almost dreamlike ‘Lost’ is the perfect melismatic blend of Jem’s vocals and the sound of Oud (native Middle Eastern instrument). Layered with undulating electric guitars that call out into the distance as they build and grow into a cathartic release, Jem states that, “Feeling lost is a common theme; it is okay to feel like that; there is nothing wrong with it. When I say it out loud, it makes me feel better. I would want people to take this away.”

Utilising his fluency in vocal registers, Jem travels between them with an unforeseen ease and grace. Pushing the boundaries, both his head and chest voice come together in perfect synthesis creating a tone that speaks to his audience not only musically but also on a spiritual level.

It’s clear that Jem is not here simply to create music; with every release he dives even deeper within himself, each time returning with a new world to bring to the surface. Unafraid to visit places and play with intonations that may be unfamiliar, unusual or even uncomfortable for some, Jem is unapologetic in his authenticity, therein lies the true definition of an artist, one Jem lives and breathes.

“I always felt I was different. I didn’t fit anywhere. And to be fair, I never bothered to be a perfect fit for anyone or anything. Over the course, music happened to be a lens for me to share my alienation.” – JEM

With his debut EP release just on the horizon, ‘Don’t Let Me Disappear’ represents an eclectic medium of transportation whilst showcasing Jems innate ability to display sensitivity within his expression, this project serves as a delicate bridge between worlds just waiting to be explored.

The anti-genre indie pranksters SeepeopleS have been a band for 22 years. The band, which is the brainchild of bandleader/songwriter/producer Will Bradford, has released 5 full length albums and 2 EPs on their own imprint, RascalZRecordZ. It would be an accurate statement to say that there isn’t a single band on the planet that covers as much ground musically, or traverses through as many musical universes as SeepeopleS does. Musicians have long since taken notice and members of Morphine, Spearhead, Dave Matthews Band (Tim Reynolds), and even members of Parliament/Funkadelic are featured on previous albums. All seven records were co-produced by Will Holland (Pixies, New Pornographers, Dead Can Dance) The band has toured ceaselessly, playing over 1500 shows in 46 states during their long career. Most importantly, SeepeopleS features songwriting that is the definition of timelessness and lyrically have been busy writing the most important musical anthems of our generation. It may be long after our lifetimes before this band gets their due, but they certainly will. Nothing this good can remain hidden forever.

As far as “hype” goes, the band was recently nominated for “Best Live Act” for the 2016 New England Music Awards. Other nominations include “Best New Artist” (Relix Magazine Awards 2007).The band has shared the stage and toured with such acts as Death Cab for Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, Cracker, De La Soul, The Pharcyde, Ben Harper, Kula Shaker, Presidents of the United States and have even had Jon Fishman (Phish) join the band for a SeepeopleS set during a Bernie Sanders rally. They have been featured in Paste Magazine, Datyrotter, Pop Matters, Magnet, Exclaim, High Times, Relix. DRUM Magazine, Blue Walrus and Daytrotter, to name a short few. Their music has been used on Judging Amy (TNT), The Gates (ABC), and in feature films such as ‘Canvasman,’ and ‘Wheels Over Paradise,’ as well as on the Discovery Channel and NASCAR broadcasts. They provided most of the music for the Headcount (voting registration) documentary ‘Call To Action’ and have played CMJ, SXSW, as well as a major music festivals’ Wakarusa, Trinumeral, Bear Creek, Smilefest and Allgood Music Festivals. In 2017 SeepeopleS released the “New American Dream” music video animated by Pete List (Celebrity Death Match/MTV, Marilyn Manson). The video would end up being nominated for “Best Video” for the Independent Music Awards in 2018, and won a Pixie award for the animator for “Best Short Video,” in the same year. Also in 2018, unfortunately, Facebook and Instagram banned the video and removed the video from their platforms, sealing the band’s place forever as a true underground cult favorite and confirming their role as artistic provacateurs. Currently SeepeopleS is back in the studio finishing their eighth studio release entitled Field Guide For Survival In This Dying World (RascalZRecordZ 2021).

Laura Reznek – Blood Orange (Live)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“The song can be rightly considered by the quintessence of melodiousness, harmony and amazing atmosphere. In attractiveness and magic, she has no equal, it is so good. Voice -Laura Reznek- creates real miracles, and the instrumental part of the composition only adds to the necessary image ”

“Песня, которую по праву можно считать квинтэссенцией мелодичности, гармонии и потрясающей атмосферности. В притягательности и магии ей нет равных, настолько она хороша. Голос -Laura Reznek- творит настоящие чудеса, а инструментальная часть композиции лишь добавляет необходимых красок.”

-Nagamag.com

Laura Reznek’s LP Agrimony was released October 29 on Birthday Cake Records. Agrimony charted on NACC Top 200 and was featured as Record of the Week on BBC Music Introducing.

‘Blood Orange’ came out of a fit of rage after a trip to Whole Foods. It tells the story of a team of disillusioned suits trying to figure out how to re-brand various fruit in order to make it sell, having become so disconnected from nature they forget that the fruit in its pure form is perfect as it. The simplicity of their childhood is a distant memory, one they are desperately trying to return to.

About this version:

“I felt the need to revisit a few of the songs off Agrimony, and after two years of solitude I knew I needed to revisit them with a big group of friends. ‘Blood Orange’ is the track I chose to release alongside Agrimony because I felt like it tied up a lot of the themes of the record, especially as the last song I wrote for it, and so was wanting a sort of ‘thesis statement’ as it were. As it was written so close to the start of the pandemic, I never really got to play it live and I knew it would be cathartic to do so once I got the chance to get in a big room with humans again. This group of exceptionally talented musicians are people I know from various points in my life, some of them from my time at VCC School of Music, and folks who I’ve met along the way in the Vancouver scene over the years. We recorded it live off the floor at Afterlife Studios, engineered by Olivia Quan, produced by myself and Shane Stephenson, with Raunie Mae Baker behind the camera.”

Tom West – Easy, Love (Live)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“An excellent combination of Acoustic music and gentle vocals from Tom West. You may have a feeling of calmness and mental balance which does not leave even for a moment. Allow yourself to relax and dive in the depths of your subconscious, where you have hidden your small, but so cozy world. ”

“Превосходное сочетание акустической музыки и нежного вокала -Tom West-. Ощущение спокойствия и душевного массажа не покидает ни на мгновение. Позвольте себе расслабиться и окунуться в недры своего подсознания, где у вас спрятан ваш маленький, но такой уютный мир. ”

-Nagamag.com

While folk singer-songwriter Tom West has already found success with his song “Easy, Love” off of his 2015 album Oncoming Clouds he explains that there was more to revisit from this “benchmark” track after letting it “float around” for a few years. West wasn’t wrong, as this new live acoustic version of “Easy, Love” allows listeners the pleasure of savoring every word he sings. With its slower and stripped back approach, West showcases his feathery vocals, giving them the opportunity to shine atop wistful instrumentation. Derailing slightly from the original, West introduces a female voice to the mix, which adds to the story of longing after love. With this addition, the last half of the song includes both parties pleading together in harmonious unison and heartbreaking desperation to “go easy on me, love.”

West explains that as he’s grown as a songwriter over the years, he always found himself referring back to the original “Easy, Love” as a “template for how to combine a relatable, catchy chorus with surrounding context that sets the scene.” Adding, “it was definitely one of the first songs I wrote where I think the imagery and music clicked in a nice and approachable way.” Reimagining the track allowed for his “mellower interpretation” to strike listeners with a heavier sense of reflection and introspection than his “more excitable original.” The song is meant to explore what it feels like when an intimate relationship comes to an end. West shares that the song “reflects the moment when a relationship loses the thrill and ease of its early days.” Consequently, the character at hand is faced with a decision: “do I want to work on this, or let it go?” With the question at hand, West skillfully brings about an added layer to the original which resembles something of tender and nostalgic poignance.

Matt Zaddy – A Dear Friend

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“Good mood and elegant concept, coming from the simplicity of sound and the artist's vocal performance. Also combined with a deep, but at the same time light, philosophical tone. Ideal choice to start your day, maintain strength and energy!”

“Очень доброе настроение и изящная концепция, в которой заключены простота подачи и исполнения вокалиста вкупе с глубоким, но при этом лёгким, философским подтекстом. Идеальный вариант для начала любого дня и поддержания силы и бодрости духа!”

-Nagamag.com

Artist said about this song:

"I wrote this song thinking about my friends I don't see as often as I used to. I have tunnel vision, and I find I sometimes forget to look up from what I'm working on. This song for me is both an affirmation and a reminder for me to make time for the people that I care about. In a pandemic world, this is even more important."
