Gillian Baci – Feel at Home (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , |

“Many believe that music has curing properties and that's true. "Feel at Home" is a bright example of positive influence, supportive mood and hope, all wisely included in this Electro Pop song. Lyrics of unique power and undoubtedly excellent artistic performance.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist said about this song:

"Inspiration and Meaning
Feel at Home was inspired, to a large extent, by my journey out of depression. I used to be more sad, angry, and worried than happy, joyous, or at peace. I spent a lot of time and energy trying to get out of hell. This search led me to Alan Watts and the Wisdom of Insecurity (a book I highly recommend for everyone). It was here that I understood that I was the problem, or more specifically, my reactions to the negative side of life was the problem.

Thus, the main meaning behind the song is that, to feel at home (be at peace), it is necessary to let go of all desires that tie you down. This doesn’t mean don’t chase your dreams or seek happiness. Rather, it means that you should be ready to let go of these desires when they become burdens (i.e. when you are sad but want so desperately to be happy). For the pain in suffering isn’t the suffering itself but the desire to run from suffering. This is what ‘embrace your mind’ in the chorus is trying to say.

Fun Fact
FAH is the only song of mine that’s made me cry. The first time it happened, I was so shocked. I even thought it was a fluke. But to my wild surprise, I cried on 2 other occasions. The reason why I cry is not cos I’m sad but cos I remember the me who used to be depressed. I see him in my mind’s eye and from there I get to thinking of all those other people who are currently dealing with depression and can’t find their way out of it. As I type this, I can begin to feel tears forming so I will stop. I have no desire to cry today…lol."

Artist said about this song:

"Lens outlines the feeling that emulates when you love the right person, it encompasses wonder, rediscovery, appreciation and happiness.

I created it to bestow hope that true love does exist and it’s a feeling devoid of toxicity and obsession. Just pure unadulterated happiness.

I want to broadcast this message and cast this net as wide as I can. A message of hope in a song can be really powerful!"

Neo & Neo – Light Me Up Again (Video)

Categories: Rock, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“We all have good memories from past years and sometimes bring them back in mind to smile again. This is the concept in “Light Me Up Again”; A fresh Indie Folk single with characteristic feathery vocals and listener-friendly approach.”

-Nagamag.com

In retrospect, the song describes the year 2015. A perfect year, in which the protagonist experienced a series of events that can only be understood as pure happiness and love. However, from the present perspective, when the song came to life the protagonist finds himself in a more troubled period of time, and therefore wants to be lit up by the year 2015 again.

Light Me Up Again was written by Dominik Robin and Raphael Schneider, long-term collaborators and friends that have been touring with Neo & Neo from 2016 to 2018 in Germany, Switzerland, Lebanon and Russia. The song was recorded and produced by Stefan Huber in Zürich.

Light Me Up Again is also the title of the upcoming LP, which will be released on March 11th 2022.

Luis Paul – A Vanished Dream (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Piano, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , |

“Trust the fingers of "Luis Paul" for your next solo piano amuzing experience. This track is so smooth and elusive that passes like a faint thought through your mind. It ends before you realize its begining, but couldn't be different, as its title states!”

-Nagamag.com

"A Vanished Dream" is about dreams we once had that didn't come true - about relationships we would have liked to continue but no longer exist; about moments we would like to travel to again, but which fade mercilessly. It is about a futile longing for fulfillment. And yet every ending is also a beginning.

Frya – Changes (Spotify)

“"Frya" sings with passion and her charismatic voice in this Neo-Soul single. Sound based on classical instrumentation in a mix which starts slowly and gradually reach an emotional peak. Very positive result from an upcoming artist.”

-Nagamag.com

After a monumental 2021 for the sensational Zimbabwean singer, FRYA (pronounced Fre-ya) is ready to share her new hit single ‘Changes’, which accompanies the release of debut album ‘Balance’.

Tipped for major success by iconic international platforms including GQ, who recently interviewed Frya and identified her as a ‘vocal powerhouse’, the Zimbabwean born singer and songwriter is quickly establishing herself as an international star. Prior to the release of ‘Balance’, her debut body of work, 4 of Frya’s tracks were hand-picked for the soundtrack of Netflix hit series ‘Blood & Water’, all of which feature on the album. As an emerging artist, this is a monumental feat and one which can be attributed to both her music and character. Whilst her colourful life experience, emotion and feelings lend to the empowering, versatile and powerful soundscape that her music delivers, it is also her eloquence and fierce determination that open a world of intrigue in to discovering Frya’s world. Describing her sound as “The modern African woman: Versatile, powerful, bold”, it is clear why the world of music, style and culture are gravitating towards her with features across Notion Magazine, Earmilk and many more already scratching the surface of what is to be found from an artist like Frya.

Unveiling the melodic masterpiece, ‘Changes’ comes courtesy of world-renowned producer ‘Mr Kamera’ and creates the perfect template for FRYA’s soulful, soothing vocals to shine. Choosing a poignant and stripped back approach, in comparison to previous musical versions of FRYA that we’ve heard, the instrumental stands out with breath-taking piano chords and epic synths that crescendos as the song develops. Fuelled with FRYA’s emotion and exceptional talent at turning it in to words, the heart wrenching lyrics delve into the deep changes that are inevitable when it comes to love and loss. Adding a deeper understanding to the inspiration behind the record, FRYA explained “Changes is a song that’s very dear to my heart because it was inspired by my mother, Juliet. I wanted a song that expressed my pain…honestly, but also expressed a realisation that loss of any kind is simply love persevering.” FRYA goes on to say “When the album pre-order went live in September, I received so many messages on Instagram from people in different parts of the world. I connected with people who had experienced loss during the pandemic and even before that. It’s humbling to know that I’m helping other people feel and release emotion the same way the song helped me. It also made me realise how powerful my intention was when i wrote the song.”

As FRYA continues to build upon the momentum that she garnered last year, she shares her powerful album ‘Balance’. This project includes a variety of differing sonic styles that all merge to create an unforgettable debut. With songs such as Changes, Back It Up, Chandelier and Calculate already creating a cult-following, after featuring heavily on the soundtrack for ‘Blood and Water’, her captivating allure knows no bounds. Showcasing her versatility, FRYA delivers soul-stirring ballads in tracks like ‘For You’ and ‘Changes’, whilst in tracks like ‘Fire Fire’ and ‘BDE’ she demonstrates a party centric, reggaeton sound. Her debut project sums up the passionate singers’ approach to music, as she strives to create the perfect synergy. In her own words, FRYA concludes: “the album is a perfect balance of who i am: tough, sassy, soft, bold, vulnerable and the music expresses that. All my different sides working together to create a ‘Balance’".

Paul & Pets – Onemanshow (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“When artistry meets talent, great things may happen. Here’s an example of cool, chilling guitar melody decorated with effects and calm vocals. The result is an elegant Lo-fi Pop song, which reveals the creativity of Paul Pfleger.”

-Nagamag.com

Wild days are gone? The Rock’n’Roll circus remains on standby mode?

It may be a sign of the times, as well as a conscious decision; Paul Pfleger had switched from touring with bands like ‘Polkov’ or ‘Stereoface’ to determined studio-solitude just in time before the pandemic started. A fruitful choice for someone who had discovered soliloquy in music as an only child, long before ‘Paul & Pets’ became an outlet to a microcosm that fortunately doesn’t sound lonesome at all. Inspired by ‘Buddy Holly’ and ‘Kraftwerk’, Onemanshow introduces another facet of Paul’s approach towards musical limitation and will be released on February 4 as a second single from an upcoming debut album.

A song and a self-portrait:

As the mist in the music video is starting to clear away, a life size painting suddenly offers an inviting hand; But things don’t seem to be lucid at all when looking through a tropical lens… Is ‘peeping‘ Paul having a fruitful vision? A kiwi-interfaced glimpse into another world?

The song doesn’t really seem to solve any mystery. Instead, it uniquely pays tribute to the art of self-entertainment in times of OnlyFans and Instagram and values intimacy as a private treasure:

“You want everyone to see your beauty and your smile, forget it and just let it be me.“

HOAX – soju (Video)

Categories: Features, Pop, Pop Features, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , , |

“”Soju” is a heartwarming Indie Pop single, which underlines an important truth; we should absorb every single moment se spend with people we love, because life won’t last forever. Wise message, expressed in a very artistic way.”

-Nagamag.com

Indie pop / rock band HOAX released “soju”, the ninth and final single off the band’s narrative-driven debut concept album, b?, a 17-track project detailing the inner workings of being vs. doing.

https://hoax-band.com/

“soju”

On the surface, “soju” might be best described to have an upbeat pop-centric sound, but the song itself is about dealing with death and reflecting on the notion that life sometimes feels like random moments in time that are out of your control. For most people, they wouldn’t know that Mike Raj wrote “soju” from the perspective of his late grandfather and that 2021 was the year of loss for him.

The first verse and chorus of “soju” was written about the aftermath of loss and grief. We tend to feel completely helpless and achingly wish for one more moment with our loved ones, as we are overwhelmed by the struggle to go on through life feeling like the meaning is lost. Most of the lyrics in the first verse and chorus are reflections on how hopeless life feels when you lose someone, and how much the sky feels like it is falling in the wake of their death. Simply put, life becomes monochromatic.

The second half of the second verse is all about that idea to not lose love when you have lost a loved one, and rather to use the pain you experienced that has undoubtedly changed you – to love even deeper. Pain is more relatable to people than success; than happiness; than anything else we often experience. Our lives more often than not are our symbols of pain that we have synthesized through our coping methods into how we then choose to perceive the world. At its worst, we let it consume us and we create insecurities that eat us alive. At its best, our pain becomes lessons of growth and empathy that we can use to understand why it is so goddamn hard for all of us to be alive and human.

The takeaway message of the song? Make sure you find someone that you can give your all to, and then love them in your every waking moment – until their final breath. That’s what the bridge of “soju” is all about. How often can we regret the time we no longer have with someone who is gone? Savor every moment you get with someone who loves you, exist with them, and be with them. And though Mike hopes that none of you will ever have to go on living without someone you love, knowing you were truly with them – and they were with you – is enough.

Debut Album: b?

HOAX’s debut album, b?, is a concept album that follows the narratives of characters that are thrown together in the aftermath of tragedy. Each song is written from the point of view of a character who explores the abstract concepts of the essence of “BEING” – an evident obsession of both the characters in the story and the band members themselves. The dichotomy of BEING vs. DOING is highlighted through careful lyricism on the album. Visit hoax-band.com for HOAX’s supplementary album content for their debut album, b?

QUOTE

“2021 was one of the toughest years of my life. It’s probably just confirmation bias, but death came to me in threes. I lost my grandmother, my dog (Luna), and then my grandfather. I wanted to express the grief I felt, but through the lens of my grandfather and all the pain he endured before his time finally came. The instrumental for ‘soju’ was written back in 2019, but all the lyrics I would write for it held no weight. It was only now after this year of loss did the words come to finally give me peace with it.” -Michael Raj

Rose Ranger – Confession (Spotify)

“In "Confession", Rose reveals a secret part of herself and shares her wonderful melodies with us. She also has an impressive ability to shift her voice tone, adding extra colour to the whole production. Magic Electro Pop that worths our attention.”

Hailing from Vancouver's North Shore, Rose Ranger's creative process is inextricably linked with the ocean and mountains that are stone's throw away from her front door. Combined with her love of all musical genres and her utmost appreciation for all the creative arts - the blend creates a dynamic vibrancy in her songwriting process. And that sentiment is a testament to her new music. The lush songs are an ode to self-discovery, and to the subtle-yet-profound moments of life - with the results being unpredictable, vulnerable, strident and sincere. “I was always musical, I didn’t really follow any one type, I absorbed it all. I grew up dancing as a kid: ballet, tap and jazz. And with dancing there is a different style of music for each dance form. With ballet it was classical, tap was mostly Broadway show tunes and jazz dancing had pop and rock. So, I’ve been influenced by a lot of different styles of music and creative art forms.”
