PuzzleProjectsMusic returns with another hot debut from its diverse roster of talent. Based in Bogota, Colombia via Brazil, where he was born and raised, Katorzi was originally a bass player in an indie band, over the years he has broadened his scope, moving to Bogota in 2018 where he began to make connections with the city’s Latin and electronic music scenes. A devout record collector, Katorzi’s heart beats to the rhythm of funk and he is constantly exploring different avenues with his music. On the Skidum EP, we get a taste of his love for Brazilian music, merging vintage flavours and Afro-Brazilian percussion with modern production techniques.

‘Skidum’ (PPM0028) splices South American vibes with nu-disco composition to produce an infectious dance floor bopper. The bassline is utterly irresistible, with an oh-so-familiar feeling permeating throughout and hints of the cuica drum adding local character. Not forgetting the vocal hook, which gives this track even more Latin appeal.

‘In This’ (PPM0029) keeps it sultry, grooving, and hot like a sweat-drenched Brazilian dance floor. You can almost feel the beads of sweat forming on your forehead. Traditional Brazilian percussion and strings push this cut forward as Katorzi cultivates a warm, inviting vibe. The mood is understated yet positive and invigorating.

If you liked that, then you’ll love the next PuzzleProjectsMusic release, which sees Ronald Christoph teaming up with Techno giant Steve Cole for a monster Dub Techno EP.

The Balmer Series – Reunion (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Electronica, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“Imagine a small pond with rays of sunlight reflecting on the crystal clear water. Then make a paper boat and let it travel across the peaceful current. This is the exact view that such music can create and the feelings from its listening could be indescribable.”

-Nagamag.com

The Balmer Series was born on a remote island in a private universe where a woman whose earth name is "Elisabeth Balmer" could only exist as an orb of light with the ability to perceive all creative possibilities. There she reunited with a faceless, fantastical humanoid who represented all she loved about being an orb of light: a ceaseless ability to explore her vast innermost realms and soar to the highest peaks, the same places where dreams are made. Upon return to her mortal body she was able to reproduce the scenes from which she came through sound, and express her love for the faceless humanoid who infinitely supports her continued journey through the cosmos.

True Loves – “Sunday Afternoon” (Video)

Categories: Jazz, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“Captivating for the first second, True Loves know how to create a building up of groove layering, where the strong performances re-in forces as you step deeper. The lush harmonies and vibes here are hard to describe in words but overall sounds like a big party that you don’t want to be out of it. So press play and get lost on sound witchcraft of passionate professional musicians. ”

-Nagamag.com

“Seattle’s instrumental soul heavyweights, True Loves, will release a music video for the title track off of their sophomore album ‘Sunday Afternoon’ on Wednesday, May 19th. Produced by Wild Gravity and filmed at Seattle’s Rainier Valley Cultural Arts Center, the video for “Sunday Afternoon” depicts the band plotting to retrieve their master tapes stolen by greedy, corporate music executives.

The video offers a candid look at the corkboard where the band has devised their heist while capturing each member of the band’s A-team-esque roles in ‘The Crew,’ listing everyone’s essential role in the plot while donned in slick black suits. The band successfully breaks into the compound to get their masters and redistributes the earnings to local venues and independent artists. As crafty as their swaggering instrumental tune with bold fanfare horn lines and a hard-driving rhythm section, True Loves prevail and toast to sticking it to the man.

“We wanted to recognize what a difficult time this has been for musicians, venues, and their staffs while corporate greed continues and how artists are taken advantage of by those at the top who continue to prosper while others suffer—a modern Robinhood tale told through a heist video,” says bassist, Bryant Moore.

The “Sunday Afternoon” video comes out ahead of the group’s sophomore record out via Color Red (music discovery platform and record label founded by Eddie Roberts of The New Mastersounds) on May 28th. The powerhouse, all-star project features Jason Cressey (Odesza/Monophonics) on trombone, Greg Kramer (Macklemore) on trombone, Gordon Brown on tenor sax, Skerik (Mike Clark/Fred Wesley/Charlie Hunter/Garage a Trois) on baritone sax, Jimmy James (Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio), Bryant Moore on bass, David McGraw (Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio) on drums, and Iván Galvaz on percussion.

The group transpired in 2014 out of a Sunday jam session between James, Moore, and McGraw and has ricocheted into an act that has garnered millions of YouTube views and countless tracks with six-digit play counts on digital streaming platforms. Sunday Afternoon comes hot off the heels of their 2017 debut instrumental release Famous Last Words and finds the band beaming with the most synergetic energy of their careers.

“It’s a collaborative effort with all of us. What’s great about people having input is that then the band sounds more natural, more cohesive. The band sounds more together in that way and that’s the way it should be. Because if the band sounds comfortable and it sits on the groove, then it comes to life,” said guitarist Jimmy James in an interview with American Songwriter (December 2020) that premiered the audio for “Sunday Afternoon.”

Alega, Flackax – Brave (Official music video) (Video)

Categories: Blogwave, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , |

“There’s just something about this song that gets to you. It has that feel, finesse and polish associated with global musical icons like U2, Duran Duran and others of that calibre and era. The sound & subject is current too, with exceptional modern day production techniques and brilliantly performed. It should be a massive hit ”

-Nagamag.com

ABOUT THE ARTIST

It all started in January 2020 when Alega replied to a post that producer FlackAX shared on Facebook, looking for someone to collaborate with. The project was never planned. It developed naturally, without any pressure. “We still are going to produce and write for other artists. Right now we enjoy working together and helping each other develop as songwriters and producers”, says Alega. The collaboration has been very productive as they both have around 20 songs ready to be released.

In July 2020 Alega and FlackAX released their first collaborative single “Divina Requiem” which featured Signe Bødtker, a classically trained singer.

The next song in line was “You can leave my head now”, featuring the Swedish singer/songwriter Malin Simon. The song is in the genre of electro synth-pop dance, and was released in December 2020.

ABOUT THE SONG

BRAVE is about looking in the mirror and not seeing yourself, for who you really are. It’s about taking risks in life and believing in the power you have as a human being. It’s about taking a road trip with no destination. Discover something new about yourself and the world that surrounds us. Rising every time We fall.

Twiceyoung – A Place For Us (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Electronica, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“We call "home" the place where we usually live, but is this our real home? Sometimes the mind travels away and we dream of a different world. "A Place For Us" is the song that describes this fact. Light electronic waves of sound and elusive singing voices, which guide our senses to somewhere else.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared few words behind his inspiration for this song:

"This was the first song completed for my debut full-length album. Heard these words on a walk in the middle of the night last Spring while doing some soul searching. I was uncertain where to go and what was home. This song is about finding where you belong -- finding home with the one you love." - Twiceyoung

Melsen – Alone (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, House, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“The uplifting vibe that we loved from the first seconds. Simple but catchy House mix with attractive singing and well organized sound patterns. Feel the beat in your veins and get ready to dance in the rhythm of "Melsen".”

-Nagamag.com

‘Alone’ utilizes Melsen’s continued winning formula pitching between a feelgood pop song and an uplifting house tune. Hung up on a hook catchy in its simplicity and Bieber-like delivery, acoustic guitars picture the producer as the shy, sensitive type who just happens to know something about moving a dancefloor, the 4/4 beats plucking up the courage to bring the track out into the open. In tune with the sound of racing hearts, ‘Alone’ gets up close and personal, and ends up getting crowds jumping.

Datcha – Collapse (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , , , |

“Interesting Pop song with Alternative influences recently released in the album of "Datcha". Melodic piano keys, very soft percussion and slow tempo. All accompanied by gentle singing voices that reveal a high level of production.”

-Nagamag.com

DATCHA is a new Boston-based bedroom-pop band from ThatOneEyedKid and Julie Friedman. T1EK and Julie began DATCHA’s debut self-titled record in the first weeks of quarantine of spring 2020 and was recorded at their home studio in Brighton, MA. DATCHA builds off of elements of dream-pop with an experimental bent, exploring themes of obsession, isolation, longing, and devotion.

While T1EK has released several indie-pop EPs and singles, DATCHA sees the veteran producer (Jenna Lotti, Kat Kennedy, Anna Madsen) digging deeper and darker in both narrative and sound. Blending with Julie’s intense, soulful voice, the full length reflects a year of two lovers enduring intense pain and chaos, and emerging with earned strength, unity, and love.

In addition to ThatOneEyedKid’s production and writing and Julie’s voice, the record is fleshed out with remote-session-work from bassist David White (The Illusionist, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), drummer Adam Soucy (Elsewhere, Daniel Costa), and mastering by Bradford Krieger (Big Nice Studio).

T1EK and Julie have performed together for years and have toured internationally performing ThatOneEyedKid material as a duo. They are veterans of the European house-concert circuit and have played extensively around New England. DATCHA shows the two in a collaboration and intimacy like never before. They look forward to bringing DATCHA to live audiences as soon as possible.

“A song for dreamers, lovers and any who wish to examine their emotions on a deeper level. Heather Walton has an immediately recognisable voice that has a quality that will keep you coming back for more. ‘I want To Know’ is an essay on a difficult heartfelt subject, handled effortlessly by a song writer and performer at the top of their game.”

-Nagamag.com

Born in California, Heather Walton is a singer-songwriter who grew up in the most authentic essence of the American culture and musical tradition. Since then, her mesmerizing and dreamlike voice has been her unique and recognizable trademark along with her original and whimsical ability to compose and write lyrics She says: I want to know more about the possibilities of the purest human emotion… love. This is the basis of my new single “I Wanna Know.” It’s an anthem for the world, but especially dreamers. About a big ideal based on one’s innermost desires and feelings that have a deep meaning in the most passional way. It’s about overcoming boundaries and quest for light. My hope for “I Wanna Know” is that it will spark the listener to analyze their deepest desires on the subject of love, and then strive to reach new heights in their relationships, emotions, fantasies, and dreams.
