“It was near the snow-peaked mountains, only yesterday, when you told me that our lives would change”

Sunset Blues is the debut single of Paul Bonds forthcoming EP. Having previously released two full-length albums, an EP, a vinyl 7” and several singles with his band Dandelion, with all songs and lyrics written by Bond, the songwriter now ventures to pursue a solo career. Bonds songwriting is reminiscent of the melancholy and craftsmanship exhibited by artists like Iron & Wine and Judee Sill, and his intricate lyrics and smooth, calming voice remind listeners of folk heroes such as Paul Simon and James Taylor.

Bond has an MA degree in English Literary Studies and Philosophy, and as such his lyrics are inspired by literary forces such as Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ezra Pound. American modernism in particular and the expatriates that inhabited in Paris in the ‘20s are great sources of inspiration. In a similar tradition, Bond aspires to enlarge the personal anecdote into a universal emotion, to which any listener can relate. Sunset Blues, for instance, deals with the big changes in life, in Bonds case: becoming a father. The song deals with the fear of the unknown, the joy of new life and the ridiculous responsibility of bringing new life into the world.
