Anton Commissaris Interview on Nagamag

.

Nagamag:
Which are the genres that describe your music style better?

Anton Commissaris:
Jazz - vocal, with notes of blues, soul, rhythm and blues, and gospel styles.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Anton Commissaris:
I am a Jazz composer, pianist, and vocalist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I released my first EP - On A Bright Note - in February 2021. I have a new single - Lonely Bay - released on September 24, 2021, and a second EP - Out of the Blue - coming out in October 2021.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Anton Commissaris:
I had heard music on the radio but the first time I felt a true connection was when at about 9 years old, I listened to an album by Joe Cocker - With a Little Help from My Friends. Cocker's voice was raw, bluesy, and powerfully emotional. It struck a chord with me. Intrigued, I began to play the record over and over. Two songs, in particular, stood out for me - the title track - With a Little Help from My Friends - and - She Came in Through the Bathroom Window. I didn't realize it at the time, but these were both Lennon-McCartney covers. I would later become a huge Beatles fan, impressed particularly by the fact that they composed, played, and sung their own music.

Nagamag:
How did you become a fan of Jazz music?

Anton Commissaris:
My mother was into Jazz music and she played a lot of records that I picked up on when I was young. When I was learning the piano at an early age, she also had Jazz sheet music laying around that I would learn how to play. I remember, in particular, being impressed by - Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. During my college years, I picked up on Frank Sinatra and many of the other great singers of the American Song Book. As an alternative to all the other standard pop music of the day, we would play this at parties and have a lot of fun, while others were somewhat confused by our retro tastes. Then after, playing classical piano for a number of years, I drifted back into Jazz and fell in love with that style of music all over again.

Nagamag:
Many artists listen to genres that they are not producing music for. Which track is your favorite that is NOT similar to yours?

Anton Commissaris:
The Beatles "For No One"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which is the track from a similar artist you admire?

Anton Commissaris:
Sarah Vaughan "Misty"

Alice Pisano – September (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“September is a wonderful reason to pour a cup of hot tea, wrap in a warm plaid and enjoy your favorite music. Piano, which pours the soul in front of his listener is a highlight of this song. The vocals here is not just present, giving life, without this track simply would not had such strong identity.”

“Сентябрь прекрасный повод, чтобы налить чашку горячего чая, закутаться в тёплый плед и насладиться любимой музыкой. Пиано, которое изливает душу перед своим слушателем, является изюминкой этой песни. Вокал здесь не просто присутствует, он является тем, без чего этого трека просто не было бы.”

Italian born, London based singer/songwriter Alice Pisano is known for her uniquely warm vocals and natural ability for writing emotive pop songs. Her passion for music flourished from a very young age, where she spent much of her time as a teenager singing in various bands and studying classical piano, guitar and singing. With the desire to create authentic music that listeners can deeply connect to, Alice’s emotional and heartfelt music touches on her own personal experiences and relationships.

Her latest heart-tugging single “September” captures the post-sunshine blues, as Alice explains, “I wanted to try and capture that bittersweet feeling that I often get towards the end of summer…and at the same time, the end of love, when you’re trying hard to forget about someone but everyone and everything reminds you of them”. The bittersweet end-of-summer anthem is produced by John Foyle (Years & Years, Maisie Peters) and driven by rich piano motifs and intimate vocals.

Sometimes less is more, and for Alice, no more than a piano and her stunning voice is enough to engross an entire room full of people. With strong chords, the dynamics ripple a reflection of emotion in the lyricism, paired with the skeletal landscape and haunting backing melodies which pour out like an angelic aura. Alice displays the power of simplicity, showing true skill as both a musician and writer.

Alice has garnered numerous Spotify editorial support, including 14 New Music Friday’s across the globe and critical acclaim from publications such as Clash and Wonderland Magazine. Amassing millions of streams for her infectious and relatable anthems, Alice’s music can be heard on radio stations wide and far, including BBC Radio London, National Dutch Radio and Amazing Radio in the UK and US. Her songs have entered the iTunes Pop Charts and the uptempo “Open Up” landed the soundtrack for the summer trailer of the British hit TV show, Hollyoaks. The acclaimed songwriter has had the pleasure of collaborating with the likes of Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Ian Barter (Dermott Kennedy, Izzy Bizu), John Foyle (Maisie Peters, Years & Years) and Troy Miller (Emeli Sandé, Jamie Cullum). Quickly becoming an artist on the rise, there is no slowing down Alice Pisano.

DiaNa – Time I$ Money (Spotify)

“Music that reveals the inner world of the author in the form of sounds and melodies. All this sounds as solid and melodic as possible. Energetic, juicy and surprisingly uniform sound. Very bright vocals, which is subject to everything!”

“Музыка, которая раскрывает внутренний мир автора в форме из звуков и мелодий. Всё это звучит максимально цельно и мелодично. Энергичное, сочное и на удивление единое звучание. Очень яркий вокал, которому подвластно всё!”

-Nagamag.com

Lebanese-American pop singer-songwriter DiaNa shares her empowering debut single ‘Time I$ Money’, out now on all streaming platforms.

Naming Doja Cat and Ariana Grande as her biggest inspirations, DiaNa draws from her combined influences, totally owning her own brand of gutsy, bold dark pop.

Speaking of the track, DiaNa says, “With this track, I want to empower people to not accept having their time wasted, particularly by unforgivable exes who don’t deserve your time. I wish that my listeners remember to only be treated like the kings and queens they are!”

DiaNa has been singing all her life for fun, however it took the pandemic for DiaNa to break out of the bubble of her career expectations and Middle Eastern family pressure she grew up with to learn to follow her dreams. Music was always considered an ‘inappropriate’ career path by her family, and so she spent all her educational years and free time pursuing academia. “As the world began to fall apart, I came to terms with the fact that music is my strongest passion and what makes me the happiest.”

DiaNa built her own bedroom studio, started learning how to mix vocals and started networking with other music creators to create and release her incredibly catchy debut single “Time I$ Money.”

Drawing from her combined musical influences, DiaNa thrives on being able to experiment with her music and the concepts and emotions she’s able to portray. She lives and breathes music, and hopes that through her music, she empowers her listeners to believe in themselves too!

Palmaria – Ocean (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Pop, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“We'd like to highlight the emotional vocal part, which so perfectly fits with those guitar soundscapes. Colourful sound palette with deep blue, irradiating on the sunny water surface of the vast ocean. True pleasure!”

“Сразу же хочется выделить эмоциональную вокальную составляющую, которая так отлично вписывается в гитарные пейзажи. Красочное полотно, как синяя, переливающаяся на солнце водная гладь бескрайнего океана. Истинное наслаждение!”

-Nagamag.com

Palmaria are an Alt Pop duo from a small town in Italy, currently residing in London. Members Giulia and Francesco have been making a name for their distinctive sound, poetically transporting listeners on a journey of dreamy landscapes and uplifting experiences. Think The xx meets Sylvan Esso, meets Little Dragon on a field trip to the Italian coast.

Their latest single “Ocean” is off of their upcoming EP, Crystallize. Co-written and produced with B-CROMA (Yendry, Fia Moon), the single stays true to their sound of delicate, hypnotizing vocals with a mix of organic sounds and utopian guitars. Taking sonic inspiration from the drums on James Blakes’ “You’re Too Precious”, the duo re-interpreted the sound through Francesco’s classical guitar.

The song is inspired by the legend of Colapesce, the magical story of a man that sacrifices his life on earth, turning into a fish to save his island, but also highlights the problem of the pollution of the ocean. “Ocean” is a call for help. The duo confides, “We wanted to give voice to our frustration; it’s been hurtful to see what is happening, especially growing up in a town almost surrounded by the sea. The ocean has always been such an important element in our lives, inspiring and healing us everytime we were in need, so it’s now our turn, we have to protect it.”

“Ocean” takes you to a surreal, idyllic, safe place, where you can feel free and you can be yourself, inspiring creativity and kindness. In this particular case, kindness towards nature, in a time where it’s pivotal that we stop ignoring the dangers we are already facing and start taking action. The single release sees the duo partnering with OGYRE - an environmental organization that protects oceans and collects plastic waste from the shores, turning it into products.

Palmaria have garnered acclaim from publications such as Complex, The Line of Best Fit and CLASH and have been playlisted by numerous official Spotify and Apple playlists including New Music Friday, Fresh Finds and many more, amassing over 3 million streams across DSPs to date.
