Created by two college students – an African American and Indian American – this track’s aim is to address recent events in the sociocultural landscape of America. I wanted to really hone in lyrically on a variety of topics that are on everyone’s radar these days, while maintaining an enjoyable mic presence that didn’t come off as preachy. We wanted to keep an old-school, vintage Hip Hop vibe in the track, so we made sure to formulate each component of the song to sound like late 90s/early 00s conscious rap. Dre is the first verse; I (Lil Brick) am the second.

Julie is a pianist, composer and teacher. Her music spans several genres from relaxing to contemporary classical to jazz to modern romantic. Writing music since she was a little girl, she received her formal music education at the University of Oregon where she graduated with a degree in music with special emphasis on piano and composition. “Purple is such an interesting color to me. It’s a little warm and soothing while at the same time dark and deep. Purple is the real color of love in my eyes. Not pink. Pink is too soft. Real love is hard and dark at times. And it will definitely leave you bruised. I had just left a very deep love when I was working on this song. However, I didn’t set out with the intention of making a song about love… but once I realized that the music was expressing what I was feeling, the color Purple seemed to really capture where I was emotionally at the time.”

Milwin, real name Edwin Lindberg, is a Swedish DJ, producer and songwriter. Helena Mayer is a singer and songwriter born in Thousand Oaks, California. What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Matthew Avery:
Classical, minimalism, ambient, melancholy.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Matthew Avery:
I used to play guitar in several punk/hardcore bands from age 15-23 and then slowly began composing on piano over the next years. I find the sounds of the piano soothing and more conducive towards composing songs that inspire strong emotions. Guitar is still an amazing instrument that I enjoy playing, but the piano has taken over as my instrument of choice over the past few years.

Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Matthew Avery:
My first real love of music came when I heard AFI's album "Sing the Sorrow". The guitar tones, song structures, lyrics, melodies and production quality were all so perfect in capturing a sort of romantic feeling of sadness. I would say my biggest inspiration for composing instrumental music came later from listening to movie soundtracks done by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis as well as Clint Mansell. They were able to inspire so much emotion with minimalistic piano-based songs.

Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

"Ville Rose" is the new single from Parlour Magic, a new vintage synthpop project from NYC-based producer, media artist, and composer Luc Bokor-Smith (1995).

Parlour Magic's debut album, The Fluid Neon Origami Trick, will be released on December 4th, 2020. Origami was recorded in Las Vegas, Nevada in early 2020 – prior to the end of the world as we knew it – and mixed by Fab DuPont at Flux Studios in New York, NY.

The Fluid Neon Origami Trick was recorded using almost exclusively analog synthesizers, including the fabled Yamaha CS-80, Oberheim OB-XA, Roland Juno-60, and the Eminent Solina String Ensemble, among countless others.

Since graduating from Brown University with a BA in Music in 2018, Bokor-Smith has created several large-scale live multimedia installations, which are available to view at www.luc.fm, while also working as a producer and engineer in New York City.
