Artist said about this song: “This is a song inspired by my time living in Ireland. With elements of traditional Irish Folk music, tells the story of many people carrying the love for Ireland even being away. It’s a song for all the emigrants and for all that have the opportunity to live there. Featuring Chanele McGuinness.”

Dylan Cox- The Comet (Video)

“A mysterious work filled with melancholy and light nostalgia. Conceptual, deeply meaningful work in the Folk genre, with a wide field for thought, thoughtful text and a strong emotional message.”

“Загадочное, наполненное меланхолией и лёгкой ностальгией произведение. Концептуальная, насыщенная глубоким смыслом работа в жанре Folk, с широким полем для размышлений, вдумчивым текстом и сильным эмоциональным посылом. ”

“The Comet” is home as a moving object: the love we have for another or a place and how it moves, how it changes. What the song confronts and achingly accepts is the built-in loss that comes with loving, the fact that we will in some way or another lose whom or what we love, or we as loved people will be lost by another. A comet briefly occupies the sky as a rare passing, it leaves, and in that departure promises a return in some impossible and inhuman time form. What’s “too easy” in the chorus is to let the anticipatory grief of loss outshine the miracle of finding home in another, in finding family, in the first place. The song is a declaration of love, but also a deeply autobiographical reflection on Dylan’s life, who was adopted by a different family in his teens.

The song was written in one of the byzantine-art-deco tiled bathrooms that adjoin the palatial rooms of La Villa Magnan, in the southwest of France. Dylan often performed there to experiment with the enormous acoustic sounds of singing in big rooms. Part of the bigness of the vocals and the string-like melodies of the post-choruses, in this song and others, comes from these spaces, as well as the giant “orangerie” of the villa, a room originally built to nurse orange trees in the cold of winter. Dylan trained his voice and rehearsed there for over two years.

The music video, co-directed by Dylan and photographer Melvin Israel, is another experimentation with metaphors. Dylan created a 40 meter long piece of fabric and dyed it yellow to mimic a scarf of his that was a gift from a close friend. In the mythological looking landscape of the Spanish coastline, dancers Hortense de Gromard and Pierre Lamour choreograph a means of approaching each other. They hold each end of the fabric, slowly tracing a path towards a comet-like center where they finally meet.

“The song is about immense waves of human emotions, doses of which daily and unhindered flow into each of us. A lyrical, melodic piece that endows the sound palette with luxurious elements. The instrumental part gives an amazing charm and sends the listener to a real knockdown.”

“Песня о безмерных волнах человеческих эмоций, дозы которых ежедневно и беспрепятственно вливаются в каждого из нас. Лирическое, мелодичное произведение, которое наделило звуковую палитру роскошными элементами. Инструментальная часть придаёт удивительный шарм и отправляет слушателя в настоящий нокдаун. ”

“Jack Keyes keeps us nice company with his new single "Nowhere". Pleasant chords of acoustic guitar fill the air of light vibrations. Another Folk candy, ideal to listen at home while lying comfortably on your sofa.”

"Nowhere" is a song about trying to find belonging and peace with who you are. The track was recorded in a spontaneous session with Paul Kintzing (German Error Message) in Nashville. The track lulls you in with a reflective, subtle beginning and then burgeons into a larger sound, with layers of organ and drums underneath hushed vocals.

“The second coming of the self. We love the natural heavy bass along with great strings on the composition. His voice carries beautifully and pull s it all together. ”

-Nagamag.com

This single is a first step out of the darkness. A hypnotic rhythmic track, that shows LB in his finest songwriting form. Add to that beautiful strings and backing vocals, with Lars strong voice up front and you get the idea of the song.

Lars have a more sobering view about the song:

"Born Again' is about the ability of history to constantly repeat itself. It is not a message of joy. It is a warning."

Alex Dunn – Southern Star (Spotify)

“The night comes and it's time to relax. Sit back and choose "Southern Star" for a joyful trip among some softly vibrating guitar chords. Follow the singer's expressive voice and say goodbye to your everyday stressful situations!”

-Nagamag.com

Before returning to Seattle to pursue music, rising Americana folk artist Alex Dunn spent much of the past 15 years working and living on boats as a commercial salmon fisherman in Southeast Alaska. Now back in Seattle and coming up on the release of his sophomore LP Southern Star, Dunn has encapsulated his experiences at sea in the album’s title track out via Color Red on September 17, 2021.

“Southern Star” is an oceanic folk song that carries the rhythms of the sea while detailing the arduous yet dreamy nature of living aboard a small wooden fishing vessel. Much of Dunn’s life was often ebbing and flowing, dictated by the seasonal nature of the fish themselves—it was only natural for him to compose an Americana homage that reflects this uniquely aquatic existence. Dunn enlisted Bryant Moore (True Loves) as his co-producer and the two captured the reminiscence of long, hard days toiling upon the sea and nights spent below deck, lulled by the water slapping against the hull, the creaking wood expanding and contracting as the boat heaved up and down.

Dunn collaborated with his good friend and renowned multimedia artist Elena Stonaker on a music video to accompany the track and re-create imagery of a dream-like reality where one floats through rugged waterscapes filled with wild creatures and the experiences of a particular, untamed solitude.

“The video for ‘Southern Star’ showcases Elena’s signature style of creating soft and beautiful, almost child-like worlds, while at the same time evoking the darkness that often lies beneath the surface,” says Dunn. “I wrote many songs while living and working aboard commercial fishing vessels and the video details the numerous creatures and seascapes that filled this wild existence while focusing on the power of dreams—for they are the connections to a promising future. In this case, a future symbolized by the guiding light of a ‘Southern Star.’”

Southern Star is set for release in fall 2021 on Color Red, a music discovery platform founded by Eddie Roberts of The New Mastersounds that is also home of fellow Seattle artists Polyrhythmics, True Loves, West Seattle Soul/The Pulsations, and more. The record was tracked and mixed by Robb Davidson of Avast Recording Co. and mastered by Greg Calbi of Sterling Sound.

“Inspiration in ethnic motives and legends, where guitar strings echo one after another. A real treasure for folk music lovers. Lingering, sometimes melancholic, a little brooding and nostalgic. Promotes reflection, frenzy and complete harmony with the world.”

“Вдохновение в этнических мотивах и легендах, где одна за другой перекликаются гитарные струны. Настоящая кладезь для ценителей фолк музыки. Тягучий, местами меланхоличный, немного задумчивый и патетичный. Способствует размышлению, исступлению и полной гармонии с миром.”

As a teenager, frontman McAll survived an attack by a gang that left him with a catastrophic head injury and every memory of his childhood gone. The next decade was spent in a cabin on Scotland’s western coastline, where he eventually began composing again.

The result is a childhood imagined against a backdrop that, like the sea, is as serene as it is wild; ever-changing, yet resolute.

Championed by DJ Alex of KEXP, Gideon Coe of BBC Radio 6 Music and Vic Galloway and Roddie Hart of BBC Radio Scotland, Constant Follower releases the second single from his album ‘Neither Is, Nor Ever Was’ on the legendary NY imprint Shimmy Disc/Joyful Noise.

The first single premiered on Brooklyn Vegan and Glide Magazine and has garnered praise from the likes of:

DJ Alex, KEXP “Beautifully introspective vocal-led Folk. Loving the sound of Constant Follower.”

Clash Magazine “Hopelessly beautiful. A staggering piece of songwriting, with its simple poignancy carrying with it the wisdom only experience can offer.”

A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed "The Merry Dancers on TV" is gently affecting. A haunting ramble pitched at the place occupied by both Arab Strap and Bon Iver, this elegantly mellow song is something special indeed. It also helps that the video for the composition is just as memorable.”

CHILLFILTR “Like a heartbroken cry echoing through an empty cathedral, we are engulfed in equal parts sadness, wonder, and unspeakable beauty. Stephen McAll and his band Constant Follower are back with another poignant triumph of resonant chamber pop.”

Brooklyn Vegan “a lovely piece of delicate folk”

Folk Radio “Instantly compelling, memorable and moving”

Today, Constant Follower shares a brand new single entitled "Weave Of The World," the second release off their upcoming debut record ‘Neither Is, Nor Ever Was’ (due October 1 via Shimmy-Disc/Joyful Noise Recordings).

Of the track, frontman Stephen McAll recalled, “I wrote it during a period of anxiety or maybe mild paranoia. You can hear that in the words. But it’s taken on a new meaning for me, since what I must have thought might happen, didn’t. There’s still a lot of darkness in there, but the song reminds me that feelings are real but they aren’t facts. Even when you think things are going very wrong, there’s always a way to turn it around.”

The band’s debut album ‘Neither Is, Nor Ever Was’ was borne out of a respect for change, and the inevitable passing of time that frightens, comforts and humbles every one of us. It is a haunting testimonial to the temporary joys and fleeting moments that define the human experience.

Co-produced by Scottish singer-songwriter Stephen McAll and renowned producer and Shimmy-Disc founder Kramer (Low, Galaxie 500, Will Oldham), the recording for Neither Is, Nor Ever Was began in early 2020 at La Chunky studios in Glasgow with engineer Johnny Smillie

This was interrupted by the birth of McAll’s daughter (if you listen closely, her cries are just audible during some of Kessi’s backing vocals on ‘Little Marble’), and shortly afterwards by Covid 19 restrictions. McAll began recording the rest at his own CFFC studio in Stirling. The resulting recordings were then mixed and mastered by Kramer at his Noise Miami Studio, to breath-taking effect.

Each album track is accompanied by its own short film. McAll sought-out the most exciting new talents in Scottish film and animation and invited them to be part of the album project. Each video, the artist’s personal response to the song, with no direction or interference from the band, resulting in incredibly moving and enchanting short ‘films’ in their own right (with multiple film festival considerations including Edinburgh International Film Festival and Manchester Film Festival in process).

"One of the most beautiful records I have ever been privileged to be a part of, filled to the very brim with moment after moment of poetic clarity, and not a moment too late...an interior force to be reckoned with. I've never experienced anything quite like it. It weaves elements of the past around a future I was wholly unaware of before hearing these breath-taking songs, each one a kind of memorial to a memory that may or may not have merely been imagined or hoped into existence." - Kramer (Shimmy-Disc Founder)
