.Fen – Open Your Eyes (Video)

“We may feel trapped in a world of negative things and unpleasant circumstances, but this isn’t so true. In fact, the good aspects of life outnumber the bad ones. All you have to do is “open your eyes and fly across the sunrise” with the Funk sounds of “.Fen”.”

-Nagamag.com

“Open Your Eyes” is a funk pop song that .fen wrote during the first lockdown in 2020. With funk arrangements, bouncy bass, guitar gimmicks, brass, gospel backing vocals, Rhodes and synthesizers, this song describes life of people who would have liked to do something else of their life

Fen got her start in the music industry at a young age playing to audiences around the country during the early days of the Brony Phenomenon. Drawing on their years of drum, bass, and guitar instruction, as well as classical vocal training, and inspired by this burgeoning worldwide creative community, they began to compose, produce, and release a wide body of work in a variety genres and styles.

Fen would later find herself in the Berklee College of Music, precisely the environment needed to spark a new burst of inspiration, both musically and emotionally. Through her Berklee education, Fen further developed a wide breadth of expertise covering composition, arranging, production, engineering, studio production, and live event production.

Due to the American music industry seemingly being hindered by silos and gaps between newer “on the ground” composers, engineers, producers, and event coordinators, Fen’s goal is to work within the industry as a facilitator of creative interaction and ingenuity. In a time where many say specialization is the sure path to success, Fen has realized that their versatility and comfort across musical disciplines can allow them to act as a catalyst for creation and foster greater accessibility to the means of music production for emerging artists.

As a composer, this attitude has manifest as a heavily polystylistic musical tendency, a collaborative spirit, and a diverse and prolific body of work. For Fen, the most exciting part of the creative process is finding and exploring new intersections between seemingly conflicting musical techniques and schools of thought. From pop to avant-garde, from acoustic to electronic, from familiar forms to generative composition; all act as facets of a singular musical spectrum through which Fen wishes to travel and document.

Jonny Glenn – Like Father Like Son (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Rock, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“A gentle, soulful chord progression that guides the melody and is an accurate mirror of the title and lyrics. Ostensibly a tender love song, Jonny is actually describing being abandoned by his father at a young age, & conveys self-reflective emotions in a bittersweet way. Instrumentally, the song is also a fabulous vehicle for his Hendrix (Little Wing) like guitar work”

-Nagamag.com

Talented Los Angeles newcomer Jonny Glenn is ready to share his most vulnerable offering "Like Father Like Son," the focus track of his debut album, 8, due out next week. The rising, alt-pop artist gets deeply intimate with this new single that shares a piece of his heart and breaks down his walls.

Raised by a single mother in the American South, opportunities at large simply weren't available. Listening to music became his escape; one where anything seemed possible. Pouring his all into his passion, Jonny prepares to set sail with his debut album, aptly titled "8" based on the date December 8th - a powerful day in the cosmos. December 8th is not only Jonny's birth date but the death of the famous astronaut John Glenn (with whom he shares a name) and the assassination of John Lennon - one of his biggest musical influences.

New single "Like Father Like Son" foregoes any superfluous production and rather focuses on the rawness and sincerity in Jonny's voice and lyrics. Accompanied by just a simple yet gorgeous electric guitar, "Like Father Like Son" is Jonny's most honest, impactful, and reflective offering to date.

"My dad left when I was 4 years old," he shares. "Then I grew up. Just my mom and me. It was just the two of us. I'm so thankful to have as strong of a mother as I do. As I've grown into myself and have been taking a deeper dive into myself, I've realized how the trauma of being abandoned affected me.

I grew up always thinking I was more mature than my peers (even though I was the youngest in my grade), or at least had to be. I thought that I was stronger than most. I had become the man of my house at a young age. An 8 year-old 'man.' As a kid, I had no idea how the events of my young life would shape my behavior through adolescence and into becoming a young adult and into my first significant relationships. I made a few mistakes along the way, some of which I thought were similar to those my dad had made and would lead me down a similar path. That scared me.

This song is about that - not wanting to be like my dad. And not making any of the mistakes he did. As ironic as it sounds, by facing my fears and my past, I've been able to start breaking the cycle of acting unconsciously and have given my true self a chance of rebirth. No longer do I need to react in order to survive. Through this long process, I am starting to learn how to just be. That has been a true blessing and I feel like I am the closest to true happiness that I've ever been."

"8" sees Jonny explore themes from loneliness and heartache to self-discovery and empowerment. Each song is set to alt-pop soundscapes featuring textural elements of R&B, indie-folk, and electronica making it feel both familiar and different at the same time. From his latest release "Runnin'" a private confessional about young love to his newest powerhouse "Like Father Like Son," Jonny shares his most important life experiences throughout this album.

Combining pop with rock influences, often paying homage to childhood idols Elvis, Freddie Mercury, and Nirvana, Jonny's wide range has garnered worldwide praise. His recent releases have amassed over 3 million streams and over 100,000 monthly listeners. His 8 album is bound to position the rising Jonny for success in the years to come.

“A delightful timeless, barroom bluesy, honky-tonk type piano lead tune that is the perfect vehicle for Sally’s wonderful, charming vocals. A song that recounts the way it feels to revisit a special place from your past to find everything, including yourself has changed. I could listen to this song again and again.”

-Nagamag.com

This song is about the feeling we get when retreading old ground, when the places we have grown up in or spent time in seem to change around us but then again perhaps it is us who is changing? It is about that sense of displacement and reflection brought about by that uncanny feeling of revisiting a place and finding it or yourself changed.

Sally Rushbrook's is a music that has forgotten its own age.

Distinctly old in style, these songs draw influence from folk, gypsy jazz and barroom blues. Yet, this music seems as contemporary as ever it might have done when Sally uses these influences to craft narrative songs around characters with unmistakably modern preoccupations.

“If you are a fan of techno, psybient, trance or similar genres then I urge you to check this superb, genre fusing track out. “Set against a background of gated atmospheric pads and a solid hip hop beat, the deep flowing bass lines, blend nicely with the catchy & pleasantly rhythmic chordal guitar work. The ariose, charismatic & captivating vocals of Ayla will have you reaching for the play it again button.”

-Nagamag.com

Bringing together a brilliant blend of flowing organic sounds with gritty electronica, Forrest Run’s bouncy, effervescent pop is laced with dark mystery.

Pushing out a sound bigger than acts twice their size, this quirky trio lay out atmospheric beds, with massive hip hop beats, along with vocalist Ayla’s saccharine melodies being the cherry on top.

For an act that has only been around since 2019, Forrest Run have matured sonically since their debut release, with the upcoming single displaying a darker, larger sound, while still retaining the catchy pop hooks the act have become known for.

While the debut EP was centred around falling apart, expect the upcoming release to pick up the pieces and move forward, while giving hints reminiscent of London Grammar, Naked & Famous, and Vallis Alps.

We have heard the future of electronic hip-pop, and that sound is Forrest Run.

“Brand new “Fitz Brothers” release directly heading to the top with high speed. Your favourite Electro and EDM atmosphere. Crystal clear production combined with artistic audio and visual effects. Worth to listen in high volume and watch the clip too.”

-Nagamag.com

Artist shared few words behind this inspiration about this song”

“Seven weeks after a heartbreaking breakup, this song came out basically in one pour. Although at first there wasn‘t more than a bassline and a voice, the essence and honesty of the song was already there and never changed throughout the process of the following production.

‘7 Years’ is a song I just needed to write and it helped me get through a rough couple of months. It’s very dear to me. I think most people can relate in one way or another. Things fall apart from time to time and we need to find a way to deal with it. This was my way and I’m glad to share it with you today.” – Fitz Brothers
