Crys Matthews, Heather Mae – Six Feet Apart
(Spotify)

Heather Mae and Crys Matthews are joining forces once again to VIRTUALLY spread their message of social-justice, hope and love from coast to coast as The Singing OUT Tour, a celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride! Spreading the msg "During this difficult time of social distancing, it is imperative that LGBTQ+ people and our allies gather to lift one another up and bask in the power and beauty of our resilient community! We may not be able to physically gather, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate our stories and our people. We don’t give up - we adapt!"

CRYS MATTHEWS
DC’S Crys Matthews is nothing if not ambitious. In August, she simultaneously released both a new full-length album, The Imagineers and an EP, Battle Hymn For An Army Of Lovers. These collections showcase two sides of Matthews’ dynamic songwriting; The Imagineers is a selection of thoughtful songs about love and life while Battle Hymn For An Army Of Lovers tackles social justice themes. Songs from both projects have already won her recognition and awards. She was one of ten finalists (from a pool of 5,000) in this year's NewSong Music Competition and, after performing at Lincoln Center on November 30th she was named grand-prize winner. Matthews also won the People Music Network's Social Just Songs contest at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance.
Matthews blends Americana, folk, jazz, blues, bluegrass and funk into a bold, complex performance steeped in traditional melodies and punctuated by honest, original lyrics. Having been compared to everyone from Toshi Reagon to Tracy Chapman to Ruthie Foster, Matthews’ eclectic infusion of genres has won her honorable mentions at the 2013 and 2014 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest and extensive radio play from Woman of Substance radio to WTJU-Charlottesville and WMRA-Harrisonburg to KBOO-Portland. Matthews has shared stages with Melissa Ferrick, Chris Pureka and Liz Longley, as well as several regional artists such as Owen Danoff, Eliot Bronson, and Heather Mae.
Equally at home in an acoustic listening room as she is on stage at large music festivals, Matthews has quickly gathered a loyal following on the east coast playing such prestigious venues as The Birchmere, The Hamilton, and Jammin' Java. Matthews’ festival and showcase roster has included BMI's Island Hopper Songwriter Festival, the 40th Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival, Folk Alliance International, 30A Songwriters Festival, Northeast Regional Folk Alliance and many more.

HEATHER MAE
Unfazed by what a typical pop artist today is “supposed” to look like and how the typical pop artist is “supposed” to sound, Heather Mae, an award-winning songwriter whose evocative vocals and rhythmic piano style call to mind artists like Stevie Nicks and Sara Bareilles, creates intoxicating music that tackles complex topics surrounding mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, self-love, racial injustice, social inequality, and women’s rights. Inspired by her own personal experiences and identities - a queer, plus size woman living with Bipolar Disorder - and those of her multifaceted fans with whom she has forged connections throughout her many years of touring across the United States, Mae crafts powerful lyrics and unforgettable music about life’s moments--from the quietly chaotic to the explosive.
In 2016, after an eight-month period of silence to recover from vocal nodules, Mae made a vow: she would dedicate her career to solely write music that made the world a better place. Her independently-released debut EP I AM ENOUGH, which reached #58 on iTunes Pop Album charts, was her announcement to the world. Mae, who was dubbed “the new queer Adele” by L-Mag, envelopes her audience with a message of hope.
Her newest project, GLIMMER, is a collection of nine songs supporting one central theme:” Feel To Heal.” Within the grooves of the new album, Mae wrestles with the complexities of existing as a human with mental illness. From her #MeToo-inspired feminist anthem “Warrior,” featuring a choir of 100+ female vocalists, to “You Are My Favorite”, a love song written for her wife inspired by her own wedding vows which will surely be the 2019 wedding soundtrack for LGBTQ+ couples, Mae shows she’s nothing less than a powerhouse. She has examined her struggle with Bipolar Disorder from every angle in order to create her most sonically adventurous set of recordings yet--and to remind us that we aren’t alone.

Borg – Mission Impossible
(Spotify)

More up-tempo, "classically pop" and straight to the point, "Mission Impossible" still dwells in the same landscape as the tracks from her first, more searching and experimental, release. A landscape where synths are ethereal, stories are strong and hearts are broken.

- "It's a song about dreadful indecisiveness. About a spring of going back and forth, only to realize that as autumn comes you're still in the same place.", Borg says. "I find my stories to find energy in that clash of sweet and dreadful, and I think it reflects on the sound."

About Borg:
After having spent a few years in different musical collaborations, lending her voice to acts as different as The Honeydrips and Olov Antonsson, Amanda Ingeborg Runestam sneak launched her solo project in December '19 with the "Honest and Cool" EP.

BORG, ”fortress” in Swedish, is a place for her uncompromising expression within the realm of pop. It's where she tells her stories of love and anxieties. Her voice, a natural force emanating from the deep, dark forests of Sweden, is supported by delicate, neon-like, soundscapes of arpeggiated synths, pads and precise percussion.

Bjorn Rydhog, Moa McAllister – Into Your Heart
(Spotify)

Into your heard is a warm vocal & guitar driving track with chill atmosphere, well performed and with clarity in sound.
Music that easy will become your new lovely summer tune through his emotive positive outlook and ethereal voice of Bjorn.

Artist said about this song:
In the beginning of the summer 2019, I wrote an SMS to my friend Olof Gråhamn and asked if he wanted to create a summer hit. He agreed and we met up at the Ribersborg beach, in Malmö. We sat on the grass, talking about what kind of mood and themes we wanted to convey. I picked up the guitar and began strumming the chords that still make the backbone of the recorded song. The rest just flowed naturally. Two beers and some sunshine later the song was done. Later, during the recording process in the legendary Tambourine Studios, it turned out that both Olof and I had considered suggesting to let Olof’s girlfriend Moa McAllister (guitarist and vocalist of the band Peach Baby) sing the chorus part together with me. Moa turned up just before we had to close up shop for the day, and we had just enough time to lay down the tracks. This was the first time I met Moa, and her tender voice turned out to be perfect for the song. On this track, as well as on the others, my producer Måns Wikenmo played the drums, bass and guitar. I sang, played the guitar, violin and keys myself. Ellen Pettersson played the trumpet and the music video to the song was co-created intuitively at Olof’s apartment and can be seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAkOVYSraG8.

Few words about the artist:
Bjorn Rydhog is a Swedish multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Malmö. After many years of writers block, he finally found a creative spark through playing the guitar to a poem by Dag Hammarskjold. This resulted in twelve new songs, recorded in the legendary Tambourine Studios with the producer Måns Wikenmo. The EP “There’s a light in everything” was released in late 2018 followed by a couple of more singles.

Drew Schueler – Can’t Say (Word Like That)
(Spotify)

Can't Say (Word Like That) is a song describing the fear of telling someone you love them for the first time. It focuses on unrequited or one-sided love, a universal and frequent subject in pop culture. The song considers the anxiety of potential rejection from expressing these true feelings.

It was selected as a top 10 finalist for the 2020 NSAI Song Contest presented by CMT and Martin Guitars. My last single "Paradise" was featured on multiple playlists and blogs such as Reignland Mag., Popmuzik, Talk About Pop Music, etc. and was shared across social platforms by influencers like Juliana Hale, and Grow with Jo. I have a release show on 2/28 in Nashville and a live performance booked on the TV show, Today In Nashville.

New pop artist, Drew Schueler is a master at creating unique yet familiar songs full of vibrant vocals and melodies, electro-pop synth textures, electric guitar and programmed beats, similar to Lauv, Justin Bieber, and LANY.

Drew cut his teeth in Cincinnati and Nashville fronting and producing alternative pop bands but is now breaking into the pop mold. He not only wrote his entire debut EP (New Perspective), but also played all the instruments, produced and mixed the entire project himself.

“I have always been fascinated by all aspects of creating music,” Drew said. “As with any kind of art, every tiny detail matters and I love knowing everything that goes into my music.”

Along with his growing artist career, Schueler is a thriving songwriter, instrumentalist and producer, working out of his studio in Nashville.

MOLTENO Continues elemental theme with “WAVES”, a future ethereal dream pop immersion in the consequences of actions.

MOLTENO’s second release of 2020 transforms experimental electronic, dream pop and alternative R&B influences to an innovative astral plane.

“Waves” explores the butterfly effect of one small action; be that the words you say that alter a relationship, or the way a toxin can radiate from a drop to an entire ocean.

Produced by Amour Haider, Hans Engstrom and Jan Oldaeas and teamed with her future ethereal aesthetic, the shared artistry of MOLTENO’s musical & visual representation is utterly magical. With previous releases attracting support from BBC Introducing, Spotify Editorial teams, Get Some Magazine, Indie Obsessive and Audiotox amongst others.

All of MOLTENO’s music is born in her home studio, before being built up with her collaborators and she has taken her ethereal performance to the likes of Camp Bestival, Fractalight Festival Of Light and Camden Assembly alongside radio sessions with Shoreditch FM and Soho Radio.

‘Clear, controlled and evocative – MOLTENO’s vocal is pearlescent. it hovers over the shifting landscapes like the moon which it seeks out... Listen, intently, and you’ll be transfixed’ - Fresh On The Net

‘Shimmering, otherworldly dream pop’ - Earthly Pleasures

Comparisons are often drawn between MOLTENO and Bjork and “Waves” furthers their shared passion for elemental soundscapes that transcend planet Earth.

Dynah – Page blanche (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Features, Pop, Songwriter Features, The Latest|Tags: , |

DYNAH, a new name, a new pop costume tailored especially for the singer-musician Melody LINHART. Two syllables taken from her actual name in order to make her metamorphosis as smooth as possible and let the magic begin! With these five letters, she becomes a freer version of herself.

Originally from an acoustic background where she played jazz, folk and soul music, Melody Linhart is currently undergoing a new beginning, a blank page – « PAGE BLANCHE » is the title of her first single – and starting a new musical chapter, in French this time, propelled by sometimes minimalist electro pop music. Her style lies at the meeting-point between Clara Luciani and James Blake.

Throughout her collaborations, from Paris to London, through Spain and the Netherlands, Dynah has been adopting a new, more efficient, more strait forward, way of writing. She seeks simplicity: “Songs have to come self-evidently.” Melody Linhart has been refining her touch. Her trademarks are: describing a scene in a song as precisely as if it were a movie, composing as if she were weaving an outfit for a character, including unexpected words in her lyrics such as “chrysalis”, or “koala”, hidden poetry.

In this new playground, Dynah is exhilarated and liberating herself: “Pop music is a good excuse to talk about love and sensuality.” Here, a few notes of synth reveal a woman feeling blue. There, desire springs out through programmed beats. Weaknesses, dreams, pleasure, motherhood, Dynah explores pop as she does her life, confronting her lyrics to electronic sounds.

Added to this vindicated sensitivity, are the fantastic meetings with French and international producers such as: Nicolas Gueguen, Martin Chourrout, Guillaume Martial or Lionnel Buzac, all of whom collaborated to this first EP: DYNAH (Finalistes/Musigamy).

Electro music gives her impulse, the stage will give her wings.
