‘I Don’t Know Why’ explores the feelings of lacking connection with someone you love despite trying to immerse yourself in everything they believe in. The release features the dream-folk duo’s lush harmonies, a brass section which warmingly punctuates the track as well as a chorus which is powerful in its simplicity as it captures the soul-searching and emotion behind the song as the lyrics repeat “I don’t know why”.
Accompanying the release is a visualiser which depicts scenes as the world goes by around a canal, fitting with the sonic peacefulness and the introspective feeling of the track.
Speaking on ‘I Don’t Know Why’, Sunflower Thieves said, “The track is about how complicated close relationships can be. How the differences in the way we live our lives and follow what we think can affect our understanding of each other, and equally of ourselves.”
